Sette Osteria - Washington, D.C.
Sette Osteria
Description
Sette is a popular spot for New Year's Day dining, with good food and Bloody Marys. The service is attentive without being rushed, although the noise level can get a bit loud. The small plates and appetizers are delicious, but some items are not as traditional as expected. The bottomless mimosa brunch is a hit, with quick refills and delicious food. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great place for friends to gather. The Italian food is excellent, with attentive service and a lively ambiance. Overall, Sette offers a solid dining experience with good food, reasonable prices, and friendly staff.

I dined at this restaurant based on my friend's recommendation with my sister visiting from California. To say this restaurant is nothing short of perfection is to not give it proper justice. We both fell in love with the restaurant and I will visitagain when am back in town. The ambiance is very casual and cozy, but packed with a lot of interesting people--includingdiplomats. We ordered the branzino and the NY Strip steak--both were perfection. The Branzino comes whole (I would not haveordered if I read the menu correctly) and does have some bones. The dessert was tiramisu and it was freshly made-delicious! For drinks we had sangria which was not typical--less sugary and mostly red wine--I would skip this next time. The value andquality of the food is stupendous. Benito was our server and he was delightful and attentive. I can't wait to return. It wasabsolutely magnificent. I highly recommend it.
This restaurant ruined my birthday and was the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a restaurant. But it could have been prevented with a single phone call from them. I made a reservation for 8 people 3 weeks in advance and included that it was mybirthday in the notes. I got a confirmation of my reservation the day before and everything. We all arrived at the restaurantand were shocked to find that the restaurant was completely closed. I received absolutely no notice that my reservation wascancelled or that they would be closed. I tried to call and the voicemail didn't say anything about the unscheduled closure, there was nothing on the website, not Instagram not Facebook, there was absolutely no way for me to know this before I arrivedwith my 7 guests who had all travelled up to 2hrs to celebrate with me. You would think that if the management had a full day ofnotice before my reservation time for 8 people they might take a second to call me to let me know that they had an unplannedclosure. You would think that a manager or someone might be at the restaurant to at least greet guests and apologize to them. Weparked in the garage that was supposed to be validated and ended up having to pay $20 even though we couldn't even eat there. Onmy birthday I was left to attempt to find a restaurant anywhere nearby that could seat 8 with no notice....the only place was arestaurant where I was allergic to everything on the menu. This is an absolutely unacceptable way to manage a restaurant I canonly imagine how bad the service must be if you actually make it through the doors.
This is a solid restaurant with some flaws. Penne all‘Arrabiata were spicy and fine, would‘ve been a 4-star, but the pizza was bad. The salami was sus and didn‘t taste good and then the mozzarella… it was as accumulated as wealth is in the world.I actually had to rebalance it myself in order to save this pizza. But the mass of ingredients thrown on this poor little pieceof dough was too much for the bottom and it started soaking. Wasn‘t a nice ending.
Update: I decided to give Sette another try and ordered for pick-up on Door Dash. Their pizza oven continues to be broken (it was broken when I wrote this review 5 months ago) and I have now been charged for food I can't get. I had to call them 7 timesbefore someone answered. Clearly you all haven't improved. Avoid. Used to be one of our favorite spots but they’ve gone waydownhill recently. They never answer their phone, their online ordering options are difficult to maneuver. Currently eatingtheir arugula salad with salmon, and my salmon is RAW. My husbands salmon is also raw. We won’t be coming back for a longtime.
They had a note on their door that they were closed on Saturday and Sunday due to reasons beyond their control. Totally fine, I get it, stuff happens! No sweat. But why, on Saturday, did you let me make a reservation for Sunday? And why was thereservation not cancelled when you knew you would be closed? With nothing posted on Instagram, Google, or anywhere. Was afrustrating brunch experience, especially for Restaurant Week.
