Reviews - Sixth Engine
Reviews summary
At Sixth Engine, guests enjoy a delightful atmosphere in a refurbished firehouse, where attentive service and impressive drink options shine. Many diners rave about the value and taste of the cocktails alongside standout dishes like the rockfish and filet. However, inconsistencies in food quality, such as chewy meats and uninspired sandwiches, leave some wanting more. Issues with menu availability and timing also surfaced. Despite these shortcomings, the vibrant ambiance and potential for enjoyable meals make it a noteworthy stop near the Capital One Arena, though return visits may depend on individual experiences.

The food was decent but not outstanding. However, there were several issues during our dining experience. The online menu mentioned cauliflower soup, but our server informed us that it was no longer available and that the website was outdated. Despite arriving before 6 pm, the only fish dish on the menu had already sold out, which posed a challenge for one of our group members who does not eat meat. Additionally, they served hot tea without a spoon and did not have straws available when we requested one for a soft drink. It appears that there is room for improvement at this restaurant.
We had a great experience at the restaurant. While in town for our annual convention, we made Sixth Engine our go-to spot for at least one meal during the weekend. The food and service were fantastic. The only downside was a loud party at the bar who were singing loudly and poorly to the music playing over the speaker system. We brought this to the attention of our server, who promptly informed the manager. Fortunately, after a while, the noisy performance quieted down. Despite this minor inconvenience, we will definitely be returning next year to enjoy the amazing food and wine selection.
I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was absolutely delicious! The hash browns were also fantastic! Our server, Moe, was the best - funny and attentive. We indulged in the bottomless mimosas and had a fantastic end to our girls' weekend in DC. I would definitely return! The only downside was that my friend's salad was a bit bland and slightly wilted. However, overall it was a good experience!

The clam chowder was delicious. I prefer thick chowder and this is thin but it tasted like real New England clam 'chowda '. The chorizo stuffers are superb! The lobster rolls are exceptional! If you are familiar with Maine/New England lobster and you want to have the real deal, this is the right place to have it. Beer selection is very good, draft and bottles. They have a very nice outdoor seating area. Service is excellent.
Cheddar Eggs Benedict was great! Got it with side salad as a lighter option for a bottomless mimosa/**** mary deal you can't beat.
Food was good but not great. Brussels sprouts and green beans a highlight, fried chicken sandwich excellent. Good portions, but press coffee was barely darker than tea and service was very slow. Nice bar area with capable barkeep. A good place to watch a game.
The downstairs bar is adorable. Great atmosphere. The bar tools are high-class and the cocktails crafty. A very unique experience. The brunch dishes were very good and they offer bottomless mimosas or **** marys. French press coffee was a real treat. Beware of salt bowls that look like sugar bowls...

Wonderful rockfish over beets (still chewy! and leeks--very interesting and tasty combination. My husband had filet, which he said was tender and delicious, served with mashed potatoes. We started with a half dozen of plump and briny oysters from the Rappahanock.
Food was okay nothing to write home about. It was extremely loud in the restaurant. Initially service was good, but once we ordered dessert, it went downhill. We waited almost 20 minutes to get dessert and finally had to cancel it. The bill came with the dessert added which we then had to get corrected.
The restaurant was great. We were in town for an annual congress and make Sixth Engine a spot at least once a weekend. Food and service were great. Only complaint was a loud party at the bar, which (loud and bad) sang the music over the loudspeaker system. We complained to the server and she immediately informed the manager. Fortunately, after a little longer the Americas 's Got No talent performance, it calm. This will not stop us from enjoying the fantastic selection of dishes and wines. We'll be back next year.
Love this place. Have dined at Sixth Engine at least 5 times and everything from the food to the service is always great. Love the atmosphere and music too!
The food was good, but not great. There were a number of other problems. The online menu listed cauliflower soup, but our server said they no longer serve and that the website is from the date. We arrived at 6:00 a.m., but they had already sold from the only fish dish on the menu, which creates difficulties for a person in our party who does not want to eat meat. Next they brought hot tea without spoons. When we were asked for a straw for a soft drink, we were told that they had no straws. There seems to be plenty of room for improvement.
