Located near Lincoln’s Cottage, this cozy soul food spot delights with a warm atmosphere and attentive, friendly staff. Many praise the fried chicken and perfectly cooked catfish, alongside well-seasoned greens and flavorful sides. The cornbread and ribs receive high marks, as does the inviting patio. However, some dishes like calamari and mac and cheese have drawn mixed reviews—sometimes described as overcooked or lacking homemade quality. Though yams are notably absent, the overall experience garners strong approval for its authentic flavors and generous portions. A must-visit for soul food enthusiasts seeking a memorable meal in DC.

As a southerner from Mississippi who has lived in Pennsylvania for over 20 years, it can be challenging to find consistently good soul food. So whenever we travel, our first priority is to seek out soul food restaurants. During our trip to DC, I chose this place, but since they didn’t offer yams, my wife opted for Henry’s Soul Cafe instead. The fried chicken at THP was decent, but I found the mac and cheese and collard greens disappointing. In contrast, my wife’s meal at Henry’s, which included pork chops, okra, yams, pig feet, and cabbage, was exceptional.

Crispy and delicious fried chicken... sides were great but no candied yams?. Daughter had catfish. She said it was ok, so I liked the chicken more than she liked the fish.

Had a fried chicken platter. Chicken was quite good and the greens were decent. It was the mac and cheese which tasted straight out of a box. That's unacceptable for a soul food restaurant. Checked with a friend and he also was of the and opinion of the m&c.

Went for dinner. Service was great. I ordered the calamari for an appetizer. It was not good. For my entree, i ordered blackened salmon which came with 2 sides. 1. Potato salad: was tasty. 2. The mac cheese is giving Kraft box mac and cheeseand not homemade soul food mac. I sent it back and switched it for greens, which were very good. 3. Blackened salmon was verygood! Well seasoned.

Nice staff and reasonably timed service. Good food and great music and vibe. There is a bar but limited vodka options. Other than that good place to visit
