We were stuck in this town onboard the "Sound of Music" ( Gate 1 ) due to low river conditions. My wife and I stopped here the previous afternoon, I enjoyed a glass of dark beer and she a glass of wine along with several fellow travelers from our ship. The outdoor seating area was very enjoyable and relaxing. Our waitress was very patient with us because she didn't speak English, but it all worked out well. To my surprise did I think I would be returning here for dinner, after the ship'smaître d' told me that I could not enter the dining room on our final night of the voyage because I was not properly dressed. With that said, I eventually returned here from the ship for dinner. After realizing that I did not have enough Euros to buy dinner, I asked the waitress if they took credit cards and she replied "no". Shortly after, the woman who was our waitress the previous afternoon might have recognized us , and after talking with our waitress, she waved to follow her. She took us next door to the bank and used her card to open the lobby for us, enabling me to obtain Euros from the ATM. Afterward, we went back next door and had a marvelous dinner of 2 Sauerbraten platters with dark beer and wine. Had we known how big the platter was, we could have ordered only one. Not only was the meat fall apart tender and a large portion, it was served with a good size portion of sauerkraut and a large noodle. We were informed that she was the cook/ manager this evening. The meal was delicious, especially compared to the food on our ship, which was comparable to hospital food. The best part was the total for our dinner, which was 21.60 Euros, approx. $25.00US. I should probably thank the ship's maître d' for making it necessary to go here for dinner. I would also like to thank our cook/manger for her hospitality. If I ever have the opportunity to return to Vilshofen, this place is a definite "must return to".

We were pleasantly surprised to find a very nice cobble stoned village. We stopped at this gastric for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by fair prices, generous portions and very tasty local foods. The house plate was outstanding as was the specialty schnitzel. All of the sausages were fresh and had good flavor. Best of all the beer was also very good. Service was also outstanding as everyone pitched in to serve our group of 22.
My wife and I had lunch here on a bicycle trip through Bavaria. A nice salad sitting outside in the center of Vilshofen on the Danube. They cater to bikers, as there were a dozen bicycles parked outside. Friendly staff, good beer!
A real Bavarian house came safely into the days in a certain sense. but typical is on older. many of the dishes are for normal appetit. alone dishes are only for large edibles. the taste is like at oma home. very tasty. recommended. service: 4 location: 3 hotel highlights: great value
