Cafe Angola - Vila Nova de Gaia

A straightforward local bakery cafe with all the usual Portuguese offerings for a tasty breakfast. Its not an artisan breakfast, it's not going to blow your mind, but it's not aimed at tourists, it is packed with locals. It is good at what it does and our waiyress spoke good english. Even at 1:09 to the this place represented great value. Good coffee, a variety of eats and friendly staff. Right opposite El Corte Ingles (sp? and next to the Metro We sat with our coffee without “looks” from the staff for over an hour while it rained.

We went here on the strength of other reviews that said this is an unpretentious place that does the basics well. We totally agree. We had coffee and pancakes. It cost us €7 in total. It's definitely not a place that attracts tourists but the staff coped well with our lack of Portuguese. They were pleasant, efficient and helpful. The coffee was fine and the pancakes were too. Basic, but fine.
