catalano was a very nice experience in eating, price/quality, service and ambiente. I save five stars for absolutely amazing perfection. I would recommend catalano friends and family. View all feedback.
What Amber Walker doesn't like about Catalano Restaurant & Cicchetti Bar:
We went to the Catalano for my birthday. The restaurant was nice, the location was good, and the the view of the lit up parliament building was charming. I found a wine I really liked on the wine list. However, the service and food were not as good as we had hoped. Everything was very, very salty, to the point that I gave up on my greens (and I really love greens). Our server was somewhat neglectful, which was disapp... View all feedback.
The most delectable meal. Lightly encrusted Halibut sautéed in butter over a bed of crispy kale and thinly sliced potatoes was so delicious, I would return weekly if I lived in Victoria. If I vacation again in Victoria, Catalano will be my first restaurant visit. Quality food expertly prepared should be de rigueur, sadly it is not. The fresh berry Mojito was also outstanding as was the grilled Romaine salad. Special request was honored with a smile. Service was impeccable without being cloying.
Hotel restaurant for the Magnolia. In addition to standard breakfast fare there are some interesting variations worth a try.
We had just arrived into town from Seattle and were looking for a good brunch. Catalano fit the bill! We were greeted right away by a smiling hostess who seated us. Out waitress was very attentive, though the time between placing drink/meal orders and receiving our drinks/food was a it much, as there were only 3 tables besides us at the time. Regardless, the food was wonderful and reasonably priced.
We had booked at the new Q restaurant at the Empress but after taking a look at it and the menu we changed to Catalano - and we are very glad we did. We had a superb dinner with excellent service. It is a very unpretentious smaller restaurant but it is all nicely done. For quality and value it was the best we found during our stay in Victoria and the location just one block from the Empress is perfect
I have endured countless mediocre meals here over the years (out of town visitors seem to love it, perhaps because of the stellar location). Today, we were treated by an English-challenged gentleman with a very heavy accent in a beyond-belief patronizing and insulting fashion. Rudeness towards a HANDICAPPED gentleman in his 90's (one of our few remaining and highly-decorated Korean War veterans), who has wasted thousands of dollars here over the years, is simply unacceptable.
