A real local. They know their customers by name. Excellent baking. Very good breakfast and lunches, standards with a creative twist. Delicious. Small and closely packed, but everybody is having fun, and table frequency talk to each other. Like Cheers, but with food. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Tonolli's Deli:
The food was good but French toast took an amazingly long time. 25 minutes? I finished my coffee before asking after the long lost toast. Seems like the kind of place that serves regulars before new customers. Faster to drive to fernwood coffee co andback. The French toast was great for sure though. View all feedback.
Their ham and cheese croissants are unbelievable! All their food is fresh and delicious! Drinks are amazing as well. The owners and staff are lovely. Hidden gem! Highly recommend!
The food is good, and the staff are lovely! My only complaint is how warm it is inside, and as a customer I don’t worry so much for myself but the staff. It’s a very hot workplace for them which must make for a long day for them. I wish there was more air flow or better air conditioning for them!
My low rating is for the business appearance. Has the owner/manager never had a look from the outside of the building and seen all the seagull splatters and dirty pavement bricks plus the filthy window with too much notices on it (except for opening times which aren’t displayed). The food looks good although only 1 vegan option (a cookie) and the coffee is a very good blend. We like it here just shake our heads when we enter. It seems to be a Sidney thing business owners with no pride in regards to appearance of their premises.Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options no vegan.
Absolutely amazing food. These are artisan bakery prices, but the food is also top notch artisan quality. The Versaille and the Toscano paninis are fantastic a delicious pairing of ingredients and every bit leaves you wanting more. I could not get enough of them.
We've been going to Tonolli's for years, as we live close by, and it used to be our favorite. However, it's become less of an enjoyable experience every time we go. Here's my thoughts on the following.... Food:The food is generally quite good (paninis or pizza), however we have tried their baked goods and find they are overpriced for what you get. For example, we have paid over $5 for a piece of cake and it was stale and not tasty at all. Would be better picking up something at Thrifty's or Sidney Bakery. Another example is that they sell day-old muffins for the same price as fresh muffins (there's no discount for them being from the previous day!!). And the staff was sure to tell me that "they're really good though even though they're from yesterday." Service:Consistently slow/disorganized behind the counter getting food out and allowing customers to pay for their items. During a busy rush, instead of having different people on stations (ie: cash, food from the case, coffee bar) everyone is tripping over one another trying punch in orders in the register, fill out the tickets for the kitchen and get their drinks from the coffee bar. I have shook my head so many times watching this take place. On top of this, the staff seem confused as to who's order has been taken and who's hasn't. Because this place is usually quite busy, getting an efficient process to serve the customers should be high on their priority list! In addition to the above issues, we have been served on multiple occasions by a rude lady that works there. Initially, we thought that this might just be a one-off, but it has happened again and again. She is consistently impatient when taking orders and is quite short and unfriendly with the customers (us included!). For example, when she asked some customers what they wanted to eat at the till and they said they weren't sure, she replied "I'm not going to ask you again" in a rude tone. I dread going to Tonolli's to see this lady working and having to deal with her. Not sure if she's the owner or what, but if not it's ridiculous that she's allowed to serve and greet the customers in this way. Overall: It's fine for a quick bite or to grab something to go. However, I could think of better places in Central Saanich or Sidney to go. It's a shame it's not one of our favorites anymore!
