Reviews summary
The restaurant being reviewed is Nelson's, a spot that received mixed reviews. While some patrons experienced errors with their orders and found the food lacking in flavor or quality, other diners praised the restaurant for its rich and delicious dishes. Nelson's is known for its exceptional home-cooked meals, particularly the chicken-fried steak/chicken, which some customers described as the best in town. The establishment has a loyal customer base that appreciates the traditional and authentic Southern cuisine served there. It seems that Nelson's is a hit or miss depending on individual preferences, but for those seeking a hearty and unpretentious meal, this might just be the perfect spot.

This charming family-owned restaurant may be small, but it offers big flavors! You definitely get your money's worth here. The food is served cafeteria-style with generous portions, and every dish is packed with taste! View all feedback.
What Tee Sims dislikes about Nelson's Buffeteria:
I need to revise my review. I placed a phone order, and my coworker ordered separately under a different name, but they still combined our orders. No big deal. When I got back to work, however, my order was incorrect. I had requested chicken fried chicken but received chicken fried steak, which I don’t eat. To make matters worse, the person who took our order was rude; he basically hung up on me and was just as dismi... View all feedback.

I always have a fantastic experience at Nelson's! I highly recommend this amazing dining experience for your taste buds! Don't hesitate—give it a try!
I visited this week to relive some old memories. It had been a long time since I had a meal from Nelson's, not since they left downtown in the early 2000s. However, the memory of their chicken fried steak was still vivid in my mind. I was not disappointed with my lunch! The chicken fried steak tasted just as wonderful as I remembered, and the mashed potatoes and gravy were outstanding as well. Come with an appetite and you'll leave feeling satisfied!

This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in Tulsa I recommended the shop in the food is amazing they have live music and the food is amazing it has a good home atmosphere family friendlyFood: 5/5
Went here with my wife, and my boss and his wife. The food kept me full all day, they don 't hesitate to fill your plate up. The prices are good for home town cooking. You won 't find another place quite like it and remember HELLO CHICKEN! Get the chicken fried steak. Also the pies are home made, she has been doing them for a very long time and they are REAL pies.
A Tulsa Legend! The recipes haven't changed because they didn't need to!!! The cream gravy is the absolute best! Everything is bomb! The mac cheese, the cabbage, the green beans...I could go on and on! Everything is goo including their homemade desserts! Order the OG way...chicken fry mashed creamed! A value for the money! I go for lunch and get dinner to go afterward! Where can you get a great, quality hot meal for $11 bucks??? I rather get a to-go than eat a $13 Wendy's meal! They've always been known for their hot waitresses, too!

We got there 10 minutes before they closed. They didn’t have any country fried steak. They made some while we waitedand gave great service. Their food was great.
I can sum it up in three immortal words. “Hello, chicken fry!” Best in town. Amazing homemade, classic cooking with excellent service. Don’t forget to leave room for the huge homemade pie!
My wife and I went there for lunch. It was very good. Two thumbs up. It was a very good value. I had fried chicken and mashed potatoes. She had the chicken fried steak. I will return. It was reasonable. Tough to beat this restaurant for a down home good lunch.
One of the true Tulsa treasures. Great blue plate lunch. The music on Friday was also great.

At last it has made to nelson’s off memorial. last time I was here and was on boston ave many years ago. the memorial is quite as I remember, except the parking lot is better (not much.) they go to the counter and order, had to go with the chicken stable with kartoffel and green beans. the wife had the chicken turkey sandwich with macn cheese. both were excellent along with the very good engraving. kartoffeln were a little casual for my preference, but still tasty. Mac-n-cheese was very good and made with real Cheddar cheese. that is a place where they check their calorie counter at the door. the service is good and the gloomy (pies) are also very good.
I got a to go order wish I was able to eat in but it's okay I'm a sides kinda girl so I was having a tough time picking but they were very nice and let me tAste some of the items went with the best cabbage real southern taste not spicy and the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes was good also next time I'm trying the green beans and for it being to go It was a good portion I was stuffed the chicken fried steak was good as well I would have liked the breading more seasoned but overall meal was great and next time I'm sure going to get some of the pie
We used to like to go here, the food was fine and the staff was great. Then one day we were served rudely and condescendingly by an older man and woman who we're helping out, only to find out that they were the owners! They had zero regard for simple questions we had about the food and basically said take it or leave it if you want something. They made snide remarks to each other about our questions right in front of us, then laughed amongst themselves...unbelievably rude and disgusting old hags! All we asked was if more chicken fried steak might be coming out for the buffet. Seriously that's all we asked, and they made some comment like too bad, and they didn't care The...read more
The Best!. I took my teenage daughter to Nelson's over fall break this past week. My husband met us there on his lunch break. He drove all the way from Owasso to eat with us since we were eating here. This is by far some of the best southern food you will ever eat and everyone there is so so friendly. My daughter, who is not a foodie type person at all, loved everything she ordered. It was also her first time to try coconut cream pie...she loved it. Thanks so much for making us happy!!!
