The ambiance is amazing, the service is outstanding, and the Peking Duck is absolutely delicious!
To celebrate our wedding anniversary in Hong Kong, we chose to dine at Shang Palace and made sure to order their renowned Peking Duck in advance. The outstanding service and delectable cuisine made our evening truly unforgettable.
After multiple unsuccessful visits, we have decided to give up on this restaurant. It is shocking that it has a 2-star rating. The service was extremely slow, taking 20 minutes just to order wine, which they ended up being out of. It appears that only insiders know about the better and more extensive wine list, which the sommelier eventually shared with us. We were not made aware of this initially. When we asked about the soup of the day, they were also out of that and offered us two soups not on the menu. Things went downhill from there. We tried to order crispy chicken, only to be informed later that they were out of it. We then ordered chicken with salt, but they brought chicken in sauce instead. When we sent it back, they continued to serve the rest of the meal without the main course. We ordered crispy pork loin in honey BBQ and were told the portion served 3-4 people, so we ordered half. However, what we received was 5 small pieces of rubbery, gelatinous pork that was not crispy. We were then told they were also out of chicken with salt. When we asked to speak to the manager, he offered to make us something new. We requested crispy pork chops in 5 spice, but they had to get the pork from another restaurant in the hotel and it arrived gristly, greasy, and completely different from the internet picture he showed us. The bill only had the price of the soups and one Diet Coke removed. We plan to speak to the hotel manager about our experience and avoid this restaurant at all costs. Our Chinese restaurant in the US serves better food. It seems like they are just handing out stars as the food was barely edible. We will also be reaching out to Michelin about our experience.
This restaurant lives up to being a part of the Shangri-La hotel. The service is second to none. The food was outstanding. The table is yours until you leave, no pressure to get in and get out. Price is what is expected at a five star hotel restaurant, but compared to a similar experience in Singapore actually not bad. I highly recommend Angelini.
