Feedback
Hotel Ankerplatz presents a mixed culinary experience for its guests. While some diners appreciate the generous portion sizes and affordability of the menu, others lament the inconsistencies in service and quality. Issues such as salty dishes, outdated rooms, and unsatisfactory breakfast offerings tarnish the experience. However, a standout dinner featuring hearty options has received positive feedback for its fast service and attentive staff. Despite some disappointments, the ambiance and cleanliness add a quirky charm. For visitors seeking value in Troon, it’s a place that could be worth a try, but expectations should be managed.
Upon arrival at Hotel Ankerplatz for our much-anticipated holiday, we were disappointed by the lack of personal service at the reception. After waiting for approximately 10 minutes, my husband went to the bar area where only a coworker was present and did not provide adequate service. We had planned to enjoy a light afternoon meal at the hotel but changed our minds due to the wait. Instead, we went for a walk and returned at 9pm to find no meal service available, leaving us completely disappointed. Our room was lacking ventilation, with a small window positioned high in the corner that was broken and could not be opened. For the price of £100 per night, this was unacceptable. Furthermore, the shower fluctuated between hot and cold temperatures. The following morning, at breakfast, the waitress failed to bring out the black pudding listed on the menu and did not offer a satisfactory explanation. To top it off, there was a large hair in my food. After this experience, we have decided not to stay at Hotel Ankerplatz again, opting for a visit to Glasgow instead.
We had dinner at the hotel on the second night and it was excellent. My wife ordered the steak pie while I chose the haggis with Swiss cheese. The service was fast and the staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. The hotel is a bit far from the train station, so we took a taxi when we left, which only cost £3.50. Overall, we felt that the hotel was worth the money and one of the best we've stayed at. The breakfast was not overly large, which we appreciated, and it was just enough for us. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would return if we were ever back in Troon. The price of £180 for two nights was very reasonable.
The room was very outdated and the bed was the worst I've ever slept in – the mattress was uncomfortable and cracked, and the base of the bed was broken. The breakfast consisted of the cheapest products available. Overall, it was very expensive for the low quality provided.
The restaurant offers great value for money with generously sized portions and affordable drinks. The menu is diverse, featuring a mix of traditional pub classics such as...
The bar and rooms are very clean, despite their old appearance which adds a quirky and fun atmosphere to the establishment. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
