Had dinner with my husband at the Bait restaurant in Taj Kovalam. It was a misty monsoon evening and the path to this place, winding around a lagoon, was enchanting.The restaurant itself, is straight out of a fishing village with thatched roof and fishing nets. What User doesn't like about Bait:
The atmosphere and setting at Bait are lovely. However, the food is just average. We were served overcooked seafood and questioned its freshness. Even though the chef assured us it was fresh, as islanders who know good seafood, we had our doubts. The staff did try to make up for the mistakes, but it couldn't save our overall dining experience. If you do visit, stick to the prawns and curries. View all feedback.
If you're in the area, you definitely need to check out this place. We ended up eating here three days in a row. The vegetarian platter was amazing and the red snapper smoked on mango wood was the best fish I've ever had. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

We visited the Bait in a group of 12. The atmosphere is amazing (we’ll end of the day it’s a restaurant inside the Taj so you expect any less! . The choice of food on the menu was also really impressive. It was a good balance of local and international food. I was sceptic about their ability to deliver on tastes for berthing on the menu but they surprisingly did a pretty good job. Only challenge was service. The lead times to deliver were surprisingly long, food did not arrive in the table at the same time and in 1 case, they mistakenly serviced our course to another table and took close to an hour to serve us thereafter. The complimentary desserts as an apology were much appreciated.
Dinner was good . Preparation of fish was excellent . Strongly recommend dishes by chef pascal . Fish marination was done well .
