Red Pepper - Towson
Red Pepper
Description
Red Pepper serves authentic Sichuan in a spacious, modern BYOB setting near the Towson York Road roundabout. Standouts include crispy beef, dan dan noodles and savory dumplings—spicy plates are reliably numbing and flavorful. Service is often prompt and accommodating, and the roomy dining room suits groups. Caveats: some dishes can be bland, orders and deliveries have been inconsistent, and protein dishes run pricey; white rice isn’t complimentary and parking can be tight.

Definitely authentic Chinese food and unlike a lot of sichuan places the spicy chicken was actually spicy. I also really like the environment it’s really nice and clean and more upscale than a lot of Chinese restaurants. Another thing to note, thepictures on the menu are probably downloaded and photoshopped online.
TLDR: Tasty traditional Sichuan food in a casual BYOB atmosphere. Come for the crispy beef and noodle dishes. Vibe: 4/5. Located near the Towson York Road roundabout, Red Pepper is located on a small side street in a large storefront. Street parkingcan be a pain if coming at peak hours, however you could always park at Towson mall and take a 5 minute walk over. Inside, therestaurant is rather large. There are several 2 and 4 top tables which can be pushed together to accommodate larger parties. Therestaurant has a modern decor style to it with hints of Chinese theming. Service: 5/5. The wait staff was fantastic during mydinner experience. I came with a friend on Thanksgiving Eve Wednesday when Red Pepper was at full capacity with a wait. Luckily, because it was only 2 of us, the hostess was able to create a small 2 top tables out of their designated takeout prep area andwe were seated immediately. Our waiter was very punctual with drinks and taking our food order, even while juggling severalother tables. Food came out in record time and with good pacing. Food: 4/5. Red Pepper offers diners a more traditional Sichuandining experience with lots of dishes using unique ingredients and emphasizing the Sichuan numbing heat sensation. Such uniqueitems on the menu include bullfrog, various organ meat dishes and full head on fish entrees. During our visit we decided to staya little more conservative and ordered the clear glass noodle in chili sauce, the crispy beef, spicy spare ribs and marinatedcucumber. Everything tasted authentic, with spicy dishes really utilizing the Sichuan peppercorns to give your mouth thattantalizing numbing heat. Prices are a bit on the steep side, especially when ordering the more protein-laden dishes. One thingI wished Red Pepper would include is white rice for the table, which has to be ordered and costs extra. Overall, definitelyworth a stop for one of the more interesting dining options available in the Baltimore County area!
I have long been on the hunt for an authentic Maryland-DC Chinese restaurant that could match any place in NYC or San Francisco Chinatowns. I am so glad I found this place in Towson, their food is on par with the best Chinese restaurants in the country! Ilove their Lamb with Cumin, Chicken With Szechuan Pepper, Dan Dan Noodles and Sichuan Spicy Wonton In Red Oil. I hope to try therest of the extensive menu during future visits.
My new favorite spot! The food was delicious. The flavors were authentic and the spice level was just perfect where you can still enjoy some taste along with the heat. The inside was also spacious, clean and well decorated. Not to mention, veryfriendly staff. Enjoyed their service.
This is was first time eating Sichuan, five stars. The pork dumplings are amazing, they have a nice soy-like, savory taste the seasame oil makes the texture nice to eat. The Dan Dan Noodles were a nice proportion, I actually added the onions and sour cream at home (more creamy tartish instead of oily quick drying). The spice is nice and not too much. If you want a filling meal on any day of the week, this is great.
