Located underneath the Travelodge hotel, this venue features a bar at the front and a comedy club at the back. Just a 2-minute walk from Bethnal Green tube station, I have seen some great acts at the comedy club at very reasonable prices. Joining their mailing list can get you free tickets and discounts. Just remember to get your hand stamped before the cutoff time. The food options are decent for snacks like pizza,... View all feedback.
What Ethie C doesn't like about Backyard:
I pre-ordered food to enjoy during the intermission of a comedy show. Unfortunately, no one's food was ready and the collection system was chaotic. We had to wait for 25 minutes along with other customers without any explanation. This caused us to miss part of the show. When the food finally arrived, I was disappointed to find that I had paid £8.80 for a frozen oven pizza with visible dots from the cardboard, instead... View all feedback.
Everything and more you want on a night out. Laughs constantly all night and audience interaction where ever you are seated is based on how loudly you can respond. It is all done in the best possible taste. The bar is lively and the comedians and staff are friendly, welcoming mix and socialise.
This was my first time at the backyard comedy club, Its situated conveniently close to Bethnal green tube station, and is fairly easy to access by road if you choose to drive, with parking bays across the road which are free to use at the weekend, and after 6pm on weekdays. We went on a Saturday night, for an 8pm show. You need yo arrive early enough to redeem your e-ticket if you booked in advance online, to avoid a late arrival charge £3), and the potential for your ticket to be resold.. Standard stuff for a comedy club really, as we use other clubs with similar policies. We decided to have a few drinks and a bite to eat while we waited.. The food is average for bar food at best, with very limited range, and we found the drinks quite expensive, with a 330ml bottle of beer and a 500ml bottle of cider coming to £9.30. Again as expected when a venue has a captive audience, but worth keeping in mind if you 're on a budget. Doors to the stage area opened on time and we went to take our seats, the layout was good, and noticeably less cramped than other clubs we 've been to. The compere came on to warm the audience up and introduce the comedians. There were four acts that night, ranging from 'ok ', to very funny, but the content is not part of my review as peoples taste in comedy will be varied. There were no big names on stage that night, but famous comedians do play the venue, those gigs can be found and booked via their website. We obtained our tickets via a friend with a promo code, but we have seen tickets available for as little as £5 when booking in advance, increasing to £10 as the show date gets closer. For the acts we saw, and the quality of the compere, the ticket price is good value for money. There 's a good friendly vibe to the place, and we saw no trouble at all. In summary, Easy to get to. Good vibe and atmosphere. Mediocre food. Pricey drinks.. We would recommend the club to others, and will be going again, but we will eat out before we arrive, We certainly wouldn 't go just to use the bar, or just for food.. Overall, we had a good evening and scored it accordingly..
Been a few times to see some big names and also some newer comedy acts. The hall is s good size which makes it personal and facilities are good. Drinks a little over priced but otherwise a good night out.
Pizzas and chips are cooked fresh for each order so allow a few minutes after ordering. You can take them with you into the show if you arrive late. The coffee machine was on the blink on Friday night and took 10 minutes to produce a cappuccino worth drinking.
We stayed at the travel lodge very close and after a day of walking we wanted to land near the hotel. In front of the room is an engaging sign beer and homemade food. We took pizza and a guiness. Without further information, the guiness was served from a cane and the pizzas were frozen. Probably good for the comedy club but definitely not to eat.
