Contribute FeedbackThe Wighton offers a warm, inviting atmosphere accompanied by attentive service and delicious food, making it a popular choice for diners. Vegan options are clearly marked, though variety could improve. Guests have praised the friendly staff who efficiently accommodate large parties and last-minute changes. While there have been occasional issues with overcooked meats, the overall consensus is positive, with many dishes, including kebabs and curry, standing out for their flavor. The restaurant's recent refurbishments have enhanced its appeal, ensuring patrons leave with memorable experiences. With great food and ambiance, The Wighton is worth a visit.
I think it's part of a chain. Vegan options were marked clearly on the menus but were pretty limited eg. one main, one salad bowl, one snack roll, and so on. I ordered the hummus, roast red pepper and spinach roll. The bread was soft and warm, red pepper tasted good and covered the whole sandwich so what they did do was quite well done. Staff were friendly and efficient, and the food I ordered came reasonably quickly despite quite a full restaurant. Would be great to see more options on the menu.
Popped in for ‘last minute decision’ dinner (8pm) and wish we hadn’t! On arrival we noted that the waitress struggled to smile or be courteous, she never asked us how our meal was and, had she asked, we would have told her it was as tough as old boots! (See comments below). The Pimms and Lemonade (2 ordered) came with approx 15 leaves of overpowering mint in each glass and no fruit! I guess they run out or just didn’t know how to make this drink? The starters were good (Calamari and Lamb Kofta balls) but the mains were very disappointing! We both ordered Hunter’s Chicken which came with a pile cooked frozen chips and a side salad consisting of gem lettuce leaves and halved cherry tomatoes Chef’s imagination at its finest! The chicken was very dry, and way over cooked to the point that it was difficult to cut let alone eat! I would guess it had been overdone and perhaps flash re heated in the oven or even a microwave dare I say. We did complain and, to be fair, our new waitress apologised and replaced our meals with two other choices which were not brilliant but acceptable for a ‘chain style’ pub. Not sure if we will go back to The Wighton again, but if we do we certainly won’t be ordering a glass of mint leaves and tough Hunters Chicken!
We visited with our grandchildren last Friday night having reserved a table. We were greeted on arrival and shown to our table. The bar was warm pleasant and had a happy vibe. The bar staff happily opened a tab without taking a card and served our drinks. They did say there was a slight delay on food, but that was to be expected three days before Christmas. Food came out and there was not really any delay. The plates and food were hot and well presented. My only complaint was that meat was all overcooked my wife and others had medium rare steak mine should have been rare all were cooked about the same and we would describe as medium. Our daughter in law had a curry and said it was lovely as was her husbands fish and chips. I mentioned this at the bar as I paid only as information as we had had a good evening. The beef dripping and Merlot gravy was very tasty. Will we go back, probably but will ask to be sure steak is not over cooked
The staff was very friendly and efficient however after a long wait for food it was very disappointing The roast very small portions, the Yorkshire pudding was rubbery like it had been cooked on mass and left on the side before serving, the roast potatoes had no colour and were more like boiled and rolled in the bottom of a chip pan, the cracking was just slightly larger than a toe nail cutting The fish was like something you buy in Iceland uniform block shape with no taste the chips were frozen oven chips We did complain at the time about the size of the roasts and the manger said he noticed earlier and already had words with the cooks , but it would appear it is a recurring problem as others have made the same complaints I’ve had better food in Wetherspoon
Food at this place was really good and staff were really helpful. However, the manager was on the phone the whole time we were eating our main to an unhappy customer walking around the bar and table area being very loud. Not professional to be dealing with complaints like that in front of current customers.
