I loved the variety of noodle and rice dishes served on sizzling platters that arrive at your table piping hot. Watching the meat and carbs sizzle creates anticipation and makes your mouth water. During my visit, we tried the lunch specials which included a starter, a main, and a choice of soup or drink. We chose the clam soup and the beef udon with curry, as well as the Tom yum chicken over rice. Both dishes were excellent, with the udon surprisingly 'al dente' despite being cooked on the sizzling plate. The rice was warm and satisfying, and both sauces were unique and delicious. The meats were tender and juicy from cooking on the sizzling plate. I will definitely return to Aka Teppan without hesitation. The food was fantastic, and the overall dining experience was refreshing.
The modern decor and attractive servers definitely made a good impression here. The presentation of all the dishes was great, but some were a bit lacking in flavor. My favorite dish was the teppan beef udon, with an extra raw egg and truffle oil.
I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. I was excited to try the red miso nabe and it did not disappoint - it was delicious! My cousin really enjoyed the beef dish and I loved the chicken cutlets. The sake bomb was the perfect complement to our meal.
Aka Teppan is a take on popular Hong Kong chain, Pepper Lunch, where meat dishes are cooked on tabletop hot plates. I went to the newly opened location on Bloor St W to meet up with some friends for lunch. Aka Teppan is currently running some lunch specials ends September 15), where dishes range from $7.99 to $10.49. My friends, and I were the first customers during the lunch hour on a warm Saturday afternoon. However, service started picking up once we were in the middle of our lunch, and more people arrived. The overall ambiance was clean, minimalist, and bright with wooden tables. <br/ <br/ Since pictures of this particular dish has flooded my Instagram feed, I opted for the Supreme Beef Teppanyaki Rice $7.99). It arrived in a personal-sized teppan that was steaming hot at 300°F, and came with raw beef, corn, green onions, sauce, and steamed white rice. All you have to do is mix everything together, and cook the beef to your liking. The heat from the teppan will thoroughly cook the raw meat, and ingredients. Our server asked if we wanted him to mix our teppanyaki rice for us, which we appreciated. I thought that the sauce mixture blended quite well with all of the ingredients including the black pepper, and the beef slices were tender enough. I also added an extra raw egg $1) to the mix, and it added a nice texture to the rice.
When I first received news of Aka Teppan 's Grand Opening in Toronto (and Okonomiyaki fries giveaway , I was instantly propelled to see the location in order to disclose its similarities to the Markham location. It wasn 't until recently that I received such an opportunity; though the free fries deal had long expired, it did not deter my decision to pay a visit.<br/ <br/ We arrived just as the restaurant was opening, and was able to take in the interior decor in all its entirety before any other parties arrived. I must admit that I enjoy the dining area of this location more than the East end location. In contrast to fmp 's casual dining area and all-black furniture, this store employs a mix of wooden finishes, marble-like textures, coloured projections in place of signs, and the thorough use of 赤 (the Kanji for 'Aka ' . My only complaint would have to be the lack of windows and natural light, as well as the excessive use of strong, overhead spotlights casting harsh shadows down below..
