Baro - Toronto
Baro
Description
Overall, the restaurant offers a mixed experience with great service and ambiance, but some issues with pricing and food quality. Customers appreciated the attentive and friendly staff, as well as the delicious Latin dishes and cocktails served. The open concept kitchen provides a unique dining experience, while the second-level spots like Pablo's Snack Bar and Escobar add to the trendy atmosphere. Some diners found the food to be slightly overpriced, with some dishes not meeting their expectations in terms of taste and presentation. However, the overall atmosphere and service were praised, with some guests even receiving special touches like birthday cards and free desserts. Despite some shortcomings, the restaurant continues to delight customers with its warm hospitality and dedication to enhancing the dining experience.

Dirk, the manager, is the prototypical power trippin' bouncer. He refused to let us in despite being on the guest list and then proceeded to let a massive group in immediately after us. I really hope that they change the management of this place, because with this attitude they won't last long.
I went first to Baro and then to Escobar, hidden behind Baro. Very good places, nice people and good drinks. I had a super new year party in Escobar! I liked the latin music and our table with infinite vodka drinks.
Yesterday was my first time at Baro. I was served undercooked chicken. Needless to say I’m NEVER coming back here. I originally got a burger but in the patty, I bit into some type of small bone mixture TWICE and it hurt. I showed both the waiter and Manager the small piece that was hard and even got a knife to try and cut into it to show them how hard it was. They took away my burger and I got chicken drum sticks instead. But when I got my drum sticks it was literally undercooked and bloody. You can literally kill someone because of this. You can send someone to the hospital with potential Salmonella. I once again called the manager over and asked him if he would eat the chicken I was served. He said no. They removed the plate once again. Perhaps it was a bad day for the chefs but 2 errors on my main dishes is unacceptable. Especially considering how much these plates cost. I was also disappointed in the communication error from the receptionist on the phone saying the menu options were available but when we got there, it was NOT. Jefferson, the manager, did absolutely everything he could to fix these errors. I did appreciate him getting us the menu items that we wanted and overseeing our final bill. But you’ll never see me at Baro again. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: CA$100+ Food: 1 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
My husband and I visited Baro for the first time this week for a date night. The restaurant has a beautiful tropical ambiance, which set a nice tone for the evening. We opted to share several small plates instead of ordering individual meals. The ceviche was fresh and flavorful, though it was a bit surprising that it didn’t come with chips—you have to order those separately, which felt unnecessary. The lamb skewers were delicious and full of flavor. We also tried the corn, which I personally didn’t find worth it. On the other hand, the slaw salad was excellent—light, crisp, and perfect for a warm summer evening. We decided to splurge on the wagyu, but unfortunately, it was the most disappointing dish of the night. For the high price tag, the quality just wasn’t there. We’re familiar with wagyu and the standards associated with it, but this was tough, overly chewy, and lacked the melt-in-your-mouth texture you'd expect. The cocktails were fine—pleasant, but nothing memorable. The service, however, was excellent. The staff were attentive and professional throughout. Overall, while the setting and service were great, the food didn’t live up to the price point. I wouldn’t return, as I didn’t find it to be a good value for the money.
