The octopus was succulent and the red wine and the port were so good, of course you can't find them in the USA. Quiet ambience, great service, lots of locals. Right next to the castle, so head to the restaurant after seeing the castle. View all feedback.
This restaurant was recommended to us by our tour guide while we were visiting the convent and let me tell you it did not disappoint. The food here is exceptional. I ordered the wild boar and my husband got the squid. While the squid was great the wild boar was out of this world. The stew and meat were all so flavorful and delicious we almost argued over the last bites. The restaurant itself was also quite charming and our waitress was both kind and attentive. We really enjoyed our lunch here and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area!
We took a tour of the Knights Templar castles. Our guide brought us to this restaurant for lunch after visiting the castle in Tomar. The food served is different from the rest of the Portugal restaurants. It carries dishes marked medieval and they are outstanding. We ordered the Chicken Tangine with Apples Cinnamon, and the Pork Loin with Figs Nuts. Both were fantastic. In addition, the wait staff was among the friendliest and most helpful that we have ever encountered. Plus, the food was very reasonably priced. They also carried excellent wine that was extremely reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
First of all this was some of the best service we have had in any restaurant. Staff were really polite and friendly without rushing you. We visited with my wife's sister and husband who now live near Tomar. There were 5 of us for the lunchtime meal and no one had any problems with any of the food or the wine. Cost was typical of the area and much cheaper than a similar meal in UK.
It's a nice restaurant, with a few vegetarian options. I had tofu with vegetables and it was very good seasoned.
This became our favourite restaurant in Tomar. The maitre d’ was friendly but fearlessly efficient too. Her husband cooked, and she was front of house. Even though their main focus is meat and fish, we felt very welcome and very looked after by them both. They always have one vegan dish every day, a different one each day too. It became their habit to slip us a spoonful of what was on offer so we could decide if we liked it. Once it was a spoonful off someone else’s food! But as it was a traditional Portuguese dish that we weren’t familiar with, it was helpful to know what we were ordering. That day it was a kind of risotto, only with crumbled stale bread in place of rice, and mixed with strips of green cabbage, carrot, garlic and other vegetables. It was unusual and tasty. Another day they had finished serving lunch. We had returned late from an outing. But they had portions of the vegan chilli available (another spoonful to be fed to us at the bar) and happily served us in the empty restaurant whist they got in with clearing up. So far there’s not been any vegan protein in sight. No beans in the chilli, for example. But that felt like a minor issue, especially as we were getting a Portuguese twist on vegan food.
