Having passed through several highly touristic towns and villages en route on our journey from Riberac via Les Eyzies to Montignac which were mostly full of res... read more Having passed through several highly touristic towns and villages en route on our journey from Riberac via Les Eyzies to Montignac which were mostly full of restaurants shut during the out of season months we came upon the Archambeau in the small village of Thonac and seeing several cars parked close by we stopped to see if this restaurant was open. Happily it was and it was buzzing with the sound of locals and workers enjoying their mid day meal. The feeling was informal with lots of conversation going on and most of the tables were taken a good sign. The fact that this restaurant is an all year round one and not just open for the tourists selling cash carry food meant a lot to us as they obviously rely on return customers, not just one off visits from tourists so they have to be good to stay in business. We had a lovely 3 course menu de jour for 15€ which included 2 succulent and very tasty steaks beautifully cooked. The wine was reasonably priced and there was a comprehensive choice of both regional as well as some from other regions. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant and washrooms were spotlessly clean. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Sitting in the garden on a hot evening enjoying the traditional set menu a lovely way to spend a couple of nights in the middle of our holiday.
