Tried their veggie hot pot for the first time and it was very tasy, you can pick and choose what you want in the hotpot (lots of different tofu types available) great taste and great value. It would be good if they had a few more veggie options like broccoli/carrots. View all feedback.
What Franco Walter doesn't like about Master Bowl Chinese Restaurant:
We found a piece of plastic wrap in the food and when we asked about it the staff took the food back to the kitchen, reheated it, and brought the same bowl of food back to us with 30% less in portion. We had been asked to pay before we'd eaten otherwise we would have left and gone somewhere else. This kind of service should not be tolerated by anyone. View all feedback.

During a current period of under-employment I make it my business to eat out at a different place every day, in between firing off job applications from my 'office' (home computer). So, I did some research on Szechuan style restaurants as I am a chili nut (However I note Szechuan pepper is (a) not chili and (b) not really a peppercorn but a small round berry that makes your mouth go numb! Anyhow I headed down to Chinatown, to the non-touristy end of Dixon Street (northend). Here you will find a varity of hotpot restaurants and also some specialising in the Uighur cuisine.Master Bowl serve mega bowls (or woks) of mixed ingreadients, tossed with chili and szechuan. You choose 5 ingredients and your level of hotness (I went for 3 out of 4 - perfectly zingy). I chose a little conservatively: crispy pork, seaweed, noodles made of sweet potato, cabbage and celery. By conservatively I mean I was too chicken on this occasion to try some of the offal items (tripe, gizzards etc) but promise I will next visit (well, maybe not the duck tongues! I do admire a 'nose to tail' eating culture though). I was not sure what I was getting as it was my first fist but then a gigantic wok of deliciousness arrived but way too big for me! I hoed in as best I could - delicious. I requested a take away container and now will be eating left overs for dinner. The staff are attentive but English is not their strong point however all the basic phrases necessary to communicate are there. Will go back next time with friends as you could easily share one big dry stir fry among 3. There are also other things on the menu if you're going solo. I spent $32.50 but as mentioned will enjoy left overs with my partner this evening. Highly recommended.
Their Szechuan style bean jelly is truly one of the best I've had. Their noodles are fresh and perfectly selected and their sauce is very authentic Szechuan. Their stir fry wok dish is equally delicious and authentic. I love how we can customize our stir fry wok dish by selecting the specific meat and vegetables we like. Will definitely come back next time I visit Sydney.
