I absolutely adore this restaurant. It epitomizes corporate Japanese dining at its best. It is my favorite dining spot, ideal for a business dinner or a pre-show meal before heading to the Sydney Opera House. Be sure to try the nabe or drachenramen dishes. View all feedback.
What Emily Luettgen doesn't like about Hokkaido:
It is suitable for those who are looking for a Japanese restaurant with a clean and quiet atmosphere near Circular Quay. I think it would be good for those who want a casual meal for business purposes. Food is just average. View all feedback.
Popped in to this cavern of a Japanese restaurant last night as I was dying for a bowl of Ramen and had read some very good reviews. The food did not disappoint, quite possible the most flavoursome and delicious ramen i've eaten, bearing in mind...i've not yet made it as far as Japan! I went for the salty oyster broth as I have an addiction to sodium. And I chose Hot Dragon Ramen, as I also have an addiction to chilli. The meat on top was minced pork I think. Lovely silky ramen noodles and chopped spring onion. No other veg, which was the only downside. The restaurant reminded me of a cave, no windows and no atmosphere. I moved from my table near the front as I could almost taste the disgusting cigarette smoke coming from outside. All in all worth it for the Ramen $15) but not if your looking for a romantic restaurant!
A group of friends ski in Niseko, Japan every other year. The snow is amazing, but what truly makes the trip so amazing is the cultural experience, starting with the food. We are on a continuous search for the best ramen in Sydney. Topping the...list was Ryo's in Crows Nest until we sampled Hokkaido Restaurant. Been there twice so far and will be going back. Great selection of ramen and we have all been very impressed with each that came to our table. The chilli gyoza are killer too!
I'd been travelling to Sydney every couple of weeks for work and Hokkaido became a regular stop for dinner each trip. The mainstays of my dinner order were a tonkatsu curry and a Suntory Malts. Other dishes that I tried in addition to the curry...were the gyoza as well as the kara-age (frind chicken). In half a dozen visits never had a bad meal and service has always been superb.
An accidental find but a delicious one. The decor is nothing to get excited by, but the food is great.
This restaurant is in a basement; the decor is a little dowdy austere. The food is good and reasonably priced. The waitresses ' English is a little patchy, as is the service. Nothing outstanding, just ok.
