Description

The reviews for this restaurant are mixed, with a consistent theme of bland food but great drinks. Many customers found the food to be lacking in flavor and quality, with some even opting to leave and finish their meal elsewhere. However, the bar staff and atmosphere received high praise, making it a popular spot for drinks. One reviewer had a negative experience with a group booking, citing issues with seating arrangements and incorrect charges. Despite these shortcomings, the chicken wings were highlighted as a standout item on the menu. Overall, the general sentiment is that while the food may be lacking, the bar and drinks are what make this establishment worth a visit.

Great service at grashüpfer, but it is a light hidden bar in a street in george street. tonight we have ordered and it tastes great! a bit gin, a bit blood orange, mandele, Rhabarb butter supplements with fresh lemon

Rhopper bar is a hidden gem. it serves beautiful cocktails and eat, with friendly waiting staff. the bar has an inside area that offers a more formal culinary experience, with the outside area being more casual. my friend and I ordered cocktails and pancakes because we were not so hungry. keen to come back to taste more cocktails.

Don't expect this is an experience remotely similar to a trip down the windy narrow graffitied laneway in Melbourne. The restaurant is indeed located in an no through alley off George street, but the whole George street is a massive construction site now and the alleyway itself is dingy and grimey. The restaurant is split into two levels - dining upstairs and bar downstairs. In the hindsight we should cut our losses and had a drink at the bar instead, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I would describe my dinner at Grasshopper is one of those meals that fill you up but ultimately a let-down for the palate and mind. The pork bun consists of a tiny piece of fatty pork belly the size of a USB stick, dry dough, and barely recognisable sauce. One bite later, I gave up on the rest. The edamame is undercooked, still hard in the centre and bland. The deep fried chicken is dripping honey sauce and incredibly sweet; in contrast the black pepper beef is tough and incredibly salty. The only two dishes that I don’t mind is the fried rice and garlic greens. All of the dishes were brought to the table within 15 minutes and dinner was done and dusted in 30 minutes from entering the restaurant. I was full but not content at all. Luckily Mcdonalds is right next door. thernbdiary.com

I believe it was our bartender's first day on the job as she checked the ingredient/direction list 10 times before making our drinks. It was a bit surprising to see her working alone in a nearly empty bar.

The restaurant offers delicious food, excellent service, and a fantastic atmosphere. They could be more generous with bread, so don't hesitate to request extra. We had a wonderful meal upstairs and the downstairs bar also looks inviting.
