I can't write a review without some context. So bare with me.Until recently I lived in Downer for 17 years, so I know the inner north of Canberra very well. In that time, I've seen the shops at Watson and Ainslie thrive. I've also watched the decline of the shops at Hackett. So it surprised me when I was in Hackett recently to discover Siam Twist. Even more, having combed through the reviews on tripadvisor, I was interested (sidebar comment - my desert island cuisines would be Thai and Italian).I went there for lunch on 5 June 2017 for lunch. What's striking about Siam Twist is that it does breakfast, lunch and dinner every day (except for breakfasts on Tuesday) as well as coffee and pastries all day.I know, I know, that sounds like a recipe for a train wreck. Try to do everything and you do nothing well.In the case of Siam Twist, that's not so. I started with the pork skewers with dipping sauce and a beef Panang curry. Both were very good. Service was quick and efficient. It's quite an intimate space, straddling the line between cafe and restaurant (also takeaway). But I liked that. All up, if you're after Asian food in the inner north of Canberra, then the Chinatown precinct in Dickson is a hub and rightly so.But Siam Twist is an alternative you should check out, less than a five minute drive from Dickson. I think you'll find it worth it.

Went for lunch.friendly but rather over bearing waiter.we had Prawns and fish cakes as a starter.prawns had seen better days and fish cakes nit memorable. Duck curry and Thai green curr chicken, which were very good.i had Massamman curry.this was awful.it was described as slowed cooked beef.tasty I thought on a cold day.wrong.what came out were great chinks of tough fatty grissely meatwe had to ask for a knife to cut it up.the butter knife provided couldn't cut it.my friend tried to pick up the indegestible lump with his fingers much to his wife's disgust. This meat could have cooked till next autumn and nothing would have tenderised this.as a result the sauce it was marinated in didn't do its job. I explained my left over lumps,As did my friend.simple explanation didn't cut the mustard. During this birthday lunch, the front door was removed, cold air whizzing around our ankles so coats couldn't come off. The workman took most of lunch to fix it. Lift your standards. Not good enough.

We were walk-ins in a busy Friday night but they found us a table, a little unconventional but we were well pleased to be out of the cold and sitting down. Food came fast, hot and delicious so I'm looking forward to my next whim to have Thai. They're BYO which was great so I just popped across to the local IGA for a nice bottle of S/Blanc.

Great little restaurant. Clean and well kept toilets. Comfortable. Near a well stocked bottle shop at the Local IGA. Not only serves Thai but also European pastries. The staff are warm, friendly and helpful. It has a nice atmosphere. I would recommend it to everyone.
