Reviews praise The Oak’s warm staff, dog-friendly vibe and good beers, but note inconsistent food, occasional slow service and higher prices.

I went to this restaurant for lunch yesterday and was astonished by the new prices! £15.95 for a burger is outrageous. It seems like they are trying to position themselves as a fine dining establishment now. The prices have increased across the board, but the restaurant still has a long way to go in terms of justifying these new prices. The decor and furniture are in desperate need of an update, which may explain why the place was empty. After having one drink, I decided to go to the Horse and Jockey instead, where the atmosphere and prices were much better. The food there was also good. I used to enjoy the food at the Oak, but I won't be spending my hard-earned money there until they can justify their inflated prices with a better dining experience.
