What Trinity Sporer likes about Konakara:
A new open Japanese restaurant in Surry Hills, with simple, bright and open-out design. There are no sushi on the menu instead it offers a different kind of Japanese food with authentic taste. Each dish highlights our dinner with its own unique flavour. We will definitely go back again to try for others. The restaurant is BYO at the moment while they await for their liquor license. read moreKonakara is a quaint, small Japanese restaurant in Surry Hills that offers a simple yet authentic dining experience. The menu may not be extensive, but the dishes are flavorful and fresh, particularly the sashimi and wagyu with sesame ponzu. While some items like the kingfish and salmon tartar fell short, the service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant has a pleasant family-run vibe and is BYO while waiting for their liquor license. Overall, Konakara is a cozy spot for a date night with delicious food that showcases traditional Japanese flavors. Recommended dishes include the salmon tartar and chicken karage nan ban, with some unique experiences like eel tempura. The restaurant stands out for its authenticity in a sea of fusion eateries, making it a must-try spot for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts.
The tempura here is the best that we’ve had in Sydney. The menu is succinct and not trendy, but everything is very well done. We love it here
