Tao feels like it's trying a bit too hard to be everything all at once. We came as a group of 4 for a mid week dinner and the place was almost empty. Picking up the menu and it kind of felt like I was in an "upmarket" Hans cafe to be honest. Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese sections offered everything from curry laksa, spring rolls and pad Thai, to tuna tataki, oysters and sashimi. We ordered the ichiban and crazy crab sushi rolls for entree - having had some awesome sushi in Perth it's hard not to compare, and although it was ok, the sushi was really quite forgettable. Moved on to mains and between us we ordered the Laksa: tasty, spicy and a generous serving size. Tempura prawns: disappointing....tempura should be light and crispy, not oily and heavy. Thai red chicken curry: flavour was nice and fresh. Popcorn prawn: my favourite dish of the night, best to share as an entree in my opinion. Teriyaki fish: fish fillets were a little rubbery and the sauce was a bit sickly sweet, least favourite dish. 5 mains + 2 sushi dishes and our water came to a total of $160. I found some of the dishes to be a little on the pricey side but all in all, prices were fairly reasonable. The sushi train setup with stools and booths is nicely done and the restaurant does have a spacious feel....but I couldn't help walking out with the vague feeling I had just eaten at a 'hawkers hut' disguised as an upmarket hipster Asian restaurant.

Food poisoning! Dont go! My wife and I BOTH had food poisonning on 11th June 2017 with sushis from the train. Were horribly sick for 2 days and even had fever. When we came back to manager he said he couldnt do anything!! Shameful!
Visited the Tao Cafe for lunch today and was most impressed with the excellent food quality and extremely attentive service. Will be returning soon.
I always get take away sushi here and I fine the sushi is made fresh when I order which is great! I love the desserts and the service is amazing. Yesterday I came in with my newborn to pick up some sushi, the staff member helped me with my wallet as my hands were full, she then came with me across the road and put the food in my car for me. I was so appreciative. I am definitely making this my regular sushi place now even though it’s a bit of a drive- well worth it!!!
