The food at this restaurant is amazing and the service is friendly. The truffle fries were exceptionally delicious and the beet salad with perfectly cooked steak was also excellent. View all feedback.
What Eugenia Smith doesn't like about Bard's Steakhouse:
It is crucial for a restaurant to deliver an exceptional dining experience if they are charging $50 per person. Unfortunately, the meal at this establishment did not meet expectations. View all feedback.
The steak was fibrous and rubbery, and took an hour to arrive. The service was very slow, making it a mad dash to make our play after.
My mother and I came here for pre-theater dinner this past weekend. We go to Stratford every summer for the shows and the great restaurants. We decided to try the Bard Steakhouse for the first time, looking for a higher end but not snooty dining experience and were disappointed. The biggest disappointment was the food. We both ordered the 6oz tenderloin steaks ($36 for the steak and one side) and both our steaks were scorched on the outside, dry and overcooked. My "medium" steak was on the well side of medium well with just the barest strip of light pink in the middle and my mother's "medium well" was brown and dry all the way through. My mom decided she would be ok with my steak so she took that one and we sent the other one back. The recook was still not medium, more like medium well with a strip of light pink in the middle but we were out of time so I just ate it. The mac & cheese side was overcooked and dried out but my mom liked the zucchini for her side. The bearnaise sauce was too thick and not flavorful. I know they are more of a beer place but I was disappointed that there were no European red wines by the glass at all.The atmosphere was casual and very loud. We kept having to say "what?" to each other all night. The waitor and the manager were both very nice but obviously overwhelmed as they were constantly running around. For all these reasons, I felt like it was overpriced. The beer list looked extensive and there was music on the upstairs patio called the Hub, so it might be a fun place to stop by for a beer but I would not recommend it for a nice dinner.
We received the rib eye and the tenderloin dinners. The server was inattentive and a little curt when we asked for service. The sides for the steak didn't offer any variate. The overall service for the price was sun par at best.
Visited for dinner while in town seeing plays. It's a nice looking place with knowledgeable staff. It is however quite loud. I ordered a ribeye steak, cooked medium at the waiter's suggestion. They have a clear definition for medium which the steak I received did not match, it was closer to what they define as rare. It was also poorly trimmed with a fair bit of fat and gristle around the edges, I assume to make weight. My companion had the sausage plate, which was quite good and a lot of food. Nice beer selection. After our food was delivered our waiter disappeared and it took a long time to get our check and pay. He was nice enough, just a bit over-worked.
Had a 5pm dinner for 2....wine was spoiled..not good...steaks were extremely salty to the point of being barely edible...mushrooms were burnt..salad was swimming in vinegrette..for the price paid this is unacceptable...staff friendly though..
