Everything is just amazing. Great steaks, baked potato is enormous and really good We normally never have dessert but tried the chocolate/pistachio ice cream concoction. It was superb Perfect evening as always.
In helping a friend celebrate her birthday, Al's proved to be the perfect gift. I could have made a meal on the special appetizer consisting of a bit of barbecue, shrimp and toasted ravioli but room had to be left for the cold, crisp salad, perfectly done and savory filet, zesty Al's potatoes and asparagus with a rich, creamy hollandaise sauce to die for. Cream cheese butter was an added treat for the fresh bread and all topped by a most pleasant margaux and French vanilla ice cream for dessert. The waiter was, for the most part, excellent. The only negative was that a promised sorbet before the main course failed to appear because of a flop in the kitchen. My friend, who had an equally wonderful steak/lobster combo over asparagus, said it made for a truly memorable birthday. Of course, this had better be a special occasion. With wine and percent tip, the bill came out to just north of (The only questionable practice is that menus are given orally at the table and prices are never mentioned unless you ask. I suppose it's like the old maxim if you have to ask, you can't afford it But it was a truly pleasant and memorable experience. We were told it was a favorite place of Sinatra and we sat at Michael Landon's table although they don't do anything so gauche as hang pictures of the countless celebs who have eaten there.
Such a wonderful experience! The ambiance is amazing and original. The food and service was exceptional. I would definitely recommend for families, date night, and anyone looking for a wonderful dinner and night out!
My wife and I had a premium steakhouse dinner in Hilton Head and I discovered she had never had this experience in STL so we came here with my parents on my parents 59th anniversary. I hadn't been in 20 years. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Considering my wifeand I just ate at a comparable place weeks ago. The wine selection was good enough with a balance of selections. Thecocktails.... well my mom's peach martini was basically peach vodka. She's been drinking these for over 50 years... NEVERquestion the 70+ year old when they say their drink is wrong. Appetizers were ok...OK.... the lobster bisque was very much forlike tomatoe soup but got a little better at the bottom. One expects large portions and they did come thru on this fronthowever when a couple knows this they split a salad. In this situation the couple should not have to wait around for the secondplate. Actually at a restaurant of this caliber the salad should come presplit by the waitress. We are tipping her at least$100. It goes up as services impresses. Needless to say.. My petite steak was not as tender as it should be. Remember Ijust came from a high end steak house but weeks ago. A steak of the caliber should almost cut with a fork. My wife picked upand prepared better from Legrands. Dessert..... what huge disappointment. I could have bought better at the country grocerystore in St. Claire.... let's not even think about what I could have had from the hill. A cold chocolate moose cake that seemedto come straight out of the fridge. No thank you. I will say at these places I appreciate they leave the prices off themenu... or no menu. The place in Hilton Head listed prices and my wife refused to order even tho we could easily afford it. She is just too frugal. Hence I had to order for her.
