I was a loyal customer of Second Cup for many years, but my experience there has unfortunately declined. Most of the equipment was replaced about 10 to 12 years ago, and now the coffee is overroasted; batch 49 just doesn’t meet the mark. I’m baffled that they decided to eliminate the Kenyan coffee, along with many other customer favorites. The location in Avalon Mall used to be a cozy retreat with the best lattes in the city, but it has really gone downhill since COVID. Seating options are very limited now, with a children's bookcase taking up space in one corner and a stacked warehouse in another, giving it more of a store-like feel. The high bar stools by the shopping center that once provided an aesthetic view and the perfect height have been replaced with much shorter chairs, making it hard to see over the counter. The staff has always been a bright spot at Second Cup, but this place certainly needs a significant overhaul.
The café is fantastic and has a cozy atmosphere. While the prices are a bit high, they are still lower than at Dieucks. It feels like a home away from home, and they offer delicious peanut butter balls!
My favorite coffee place in the city. They have great coffee and snacks, along with a lovely atmosphere and friendly service.
