Mouse Tail
3.9 / 5 (159 reviews)

Description

Nestled within a library, Mousetail Coffee has emerged as a mixed bag of experiences. While some patrons praise the friendly service and excellent coffee, others express dissatisfaction with both hygiene standards and customer service. Complaints include unfulfilled requests, unsanitary conditions, and noise levels disrupting the library's tranquil atmosphere. However, many appreciate the inviting selection of healthy food, particularly the daily salads and delicious banana bread. Striking a balance between cozy café vibes and breezy efficiency, Mousetail remains a popular stop for coffee lovers, though it may not cater to all visitors' expectations.

Coffee was okay nothing to write home about. However, the vent visible in the top left of the main corner was full up with dirt and fur to the point that some was overhanging the top of the bar. We're not talking about a bit of mess or untidiness this is a serious hygiene issue. The member of staff shrugged her shoulders when I pointed it out, but the customer behind me walked off shame I had already paid.

Food looked great. Couldn't order any of it because the idea of mouse tails in the salad, mouse tails in the sandwiches, mouse tails out of the corner of my eye was too, too revolting. Mouse tail is a barista Thing but perhaps it should have stayed the other side of the counter. On a level with calling somewhere The Smelly Nappy Cafe.

There's a great selection of places to eat and drink in Borough High Street but the Mouse Tail has become a favourite because they have a nice selection of healthy foods at a reasonable price. In particular I can recommend their salads which are different every day and always tasty and interesting. Coupled with the coffee shop being located inside the library, it's a good lunch time hang out with plenty to read. The banana bread is also fantastic and the coffee's nice too.

This coffee shop is inside a library. You'd think they'd have worked out that most people don't to to the library to have pumped at them non-stop. But no. Staff here consistently play loud music that ruins the peace of the library. Today it was rap music. So no chance of spending a gentle Sunday afternoon reading the paper, unless you like that gentle Sunday afternoon to be accompanied by a throbbing bass line and rap music lyrics. On the positive side, about ⅓ of the branch's staff are *not* rude.

A little café in the library that makes the perfect alternative to costa and all of that. Very nice coffee, £2 for 2 espresso shots regardless of how they're taken (latté, americano, etc). Food is slightly expensive, starbucks prices, but there are a number of glorious creations especially amongst their inventive sandwiches. Many vegetarian options available and I'd recommend their brunch. Perfect place to work or read, not so good for noisy conversation as it is in the library.
