the food was excellent and some of the surprising combinations on the menu were well joined together and delicious. my only criticism would be that some of the employees were a little inexperienced and attentive service could improve our culinary experience. View all feedback.
What AlisonH doesn't like about The Signature Restaurant:
The entrance of the hotel appeared outdated and unappealing, but the garden and terrace at the back were beautiful. The service was odd - formal and slightly snobbish. The menu was confusing and it seemed like other guests were offered more choices or specials. The restaurant offers fantastic food, outstanding service, and an affordable price. What else could you want?
The restaurant is quite small in size, but it offers a tasty menu with classic café dishes like soup and baked potatoes, as well as some unique and modern options not found in other tea rooms in Penrith.
The entrance of the hotel appeared outdated and unappealing, but the garden and terrace at the back were beautiful. The service was odd - formal and slightly snobbish. The menu was confusing and it seemed like other guests were offered more choices or specials. We had to ask several times for a glass of wine before it was finally brought to us after we finished our main course. Furthermore, we were mistakenly billed twice for our desserts. Because of these issues, we have chosen not to dine at this restaurant again.
We made a reservation for lunch at the Wordsworth Hotel Signature Restaurant on Easter Sunday. Arriving a bit early, we had a drink at the hotel bar which was enjoyable. Surprisingly, we were the only diners in the restaurant, despite it being Easter in the Lake District. We were seated at a lovely table by the window, allowing us to watch the world outside as it rained. We opted for just main courses and desserts, skipping starters. I had the Poussin and my husband had the Haloumi; both dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. Although we didn't have any wine due to driving, we noticed the extensive wine list with recommended pairings for each main course option. The assorted dessert platter we shared was also fantastic. The service at the restaurant was excellent, with courteous and attentive staff. The bright and airy room with a large window overlooking the village added to the overall experience. We were very pleased with the food and service, and will definitely be returning. There's nothing better than excellent food and service!
We came across a great little restaurant in Penrith while on our way to Glasgow. I tried the spinach and fennel soup, which was deliciously thick and flavorful, served with freshly baked homemade bread.
