Toadstool - South Gate
Toadstool
Description
A neighborhood dive with cheap, icy-cold beer, friendly bartenders, and a welcoming, family-like crowd. Three pool tables, a jukebox (and occasional DJ), a small dance floor and a full bar keep the vibe lively and unpretentious. Patrons praise spotless restrooms, efficient service and occasional free snacks. Cash-only and indoor smoking preserve its gritty charm; expect styrofoam cups for draft beer and a relaxed, multi-generational scene perfect for low-key nights out.

My friend, one of the best bartenders in town, has been urging me to visit for a drink, and I finally took her up on it. Tonight, I headed over for a Southern Comfort, only to find that dive bars don’t have fancy crushed ice, so I ordered it on the rocks instead. We both chuckled at the situation. I walked in, passed the regulars, and settled into the fifth bar stool, pleasantly surprised because I didn’t expect to chat with anyone. However, a woman leaned into me as she ordered her Patron shot with a beer chaser. A few minutes later, another woman, who seemed to be with her boyfriend, got a bit too close and offered to buy me another drink. I politely declined, saying I was sticking to my one drink max. Overall, I highly recommend this cozy dive bar, and I plan to return.
I've been visiting this bar for years, and today I came in to watch a football game. I was welcomed by the amazing bartender, Sally—she's the best! It's a fantastic place: clean, with great drinks, and they serve the coldest beer in town.
Fred, the owner, is fantastic! He maintains a clean bar, even when some patrons try to mess it up. The staff is friendly, and the bar area is always well-kept, especially the bathrooms, which are the most important!
The best little bar to go shoot pool and have a great time, they have a great staff. It's like family. I go about twice a week and its always an amazing time. Leslie is the best. I love her
