Mom's Cafe - Sooke
Mom's Cafe
Description
Mom's Cafe in Sooke is a quaint spot with a 50's diner vibe serving up generous portions. While the food received mixed reviews, with bland dishes and incorrect orders, the breakfast poutine was a hit. The atmosphere is cozy, featuring homemade pies and nostalgic music. The service is friendly and efficient, making it a great breakfast spot for families. Some diners noted concerns with cleanliness and renovation needs. Despite this, the restaurant still holds potential for turning things around if they give more attention to details and customer service. Overall, Mom's Cafe is a nostalgic gem but may need some improvement to fully meet expectations.

While staying at the Prestige Hotel my family stopped here for an early dinner. It was 5:30 pm and not very busy for a Thursday. The cafe itself had a 50's diner look inside, and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. I was happy to see a wide variety of entrees on menu, but the meals we selected didn't have a lot of flavor. My wife ordered the meatloaf which was a bit dry and the brown gravy didn't have much taste. She also said the vegetables seemed to be microwaved frozen veggies. I ordered the Jambalaya which had chicken strips, shrimp, and sausage over rice with sliced bell peppers, but it also lacked any flavor. It wasn't spicy at all, and the sauce seemed to be mainly tomato sauce. Finally, we ordered a slice of Apple pie (after seeing how huge it was in the dessert case) but it too seemed to be missing some ingredients, such as butter and brown sugar. So, the service was good but the food was a bit bland. Maybe the breakfasts would be better, but I'd try a different place for lunch or dinner.
Ate there 2 times the beer batter halibut was great and the service was really good. Was very warm in cafe need to install a/c.
Good food and great service! Try the chocolate pie! Breakfast all day is a bonus too! Just off the beaten path in Sooke.
We only ordered coffee, but the restaurant has a charming 1950s theme in its design.
