What Drew Madore doesn't like about True Grounds:
I keep going back to this spot because I live in the neighborhood and so desperately want to like it. I think this place survives mainly because of the vibes they create (cute local coffee shop, perhaps vaguely queer , but the food really is very mediocre and takes a while to be served. I got the “chipotle” breakfast burrito which was weirdly kind of watery(? and had very little flavor, and the bagels for the breakfa... View all feedback.

Lovely people, wonderful coffee and hot chocolate, delicious treats and yummy lunches
I love their specialty late and they have amazing homemade muffins and scones!!
One of the best coffee shops around Somerville. They have awesome coffee. I recommend trying their Iced Vietnamese coffee. Their cold brew is also really good. They make delicious sandwiches and muffins too. Finally, they even sell some good coffee beans for a pretty nice price. Also recommend their egg sandwiches on a bagel. And wonderful pumpkin chip muffins. Both featured in my photos. Highly, highly recommend. The only thing they're missing is a way to order ahead. There's a little bit of a wait sometimes (understandable labor and supply chain shortages) but that could be migrated by having an order ahead option via toast or another online service.
I love True Grounds. I've lived in the area for a couple years and have been a regular here throughout the pandemic, and it's always rock-solid. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't speak to that, but their chai lattes are miraculously not overly sweet (which is why I don't like chai lattes from 90% of the cafes that make them). The food is delicious and consistent. The space is cute and homey, with just the right amount of time worn-ness. The people working there are always friendly and efficient. All in all, a great local coffee spot, I hope they stay in business forever!
