Tucked in a central spot with reliable airport shuttle service and mountain views, this budget hotel is a practical choice for travelers seeking location and basic comforts. Guests praise punctual shuttles, fair prices and some friendly staff, but experiences vary widely: cleanliness and housekeeping are inconsistent, walls are thin and the continental breakfast is meager. Expect simple, drab rooms, occasional maintenance issues and mixed service — a convenient option if nearby access matters more than polish or peacefulness.
If you're looking for a hotel right in the heart of Sitka, this is the place to be. However, the management really needs to step things up. Let’s break it down: I called the hotel from the airplane to confirm the availability of the shuttle. My friends were ahead of me, and they decided to start the 1.5-mile walk to the hotel. They were right; we waited and waited. Although the hotel was aware we had landed and everyone else had been picked up from our flight, the shuttle finally arrived after a frustrating 15-minute wait. Unfortunately, it was too small to accommodate all of us. To make matters worse, the shuttle driver prioritized the aircrew, which, while understandable, left us feeling like second-class citizens—especially since I’m a war veteran paying full price for this trip to Alaska. So, after all that waiting, I opted to walk the 1.5 miles to the hotel. Upon arrival, our rooms weren't ready, and the staff were noticeably unfriendly and unhelpful. After some back-and-forth, we finally got our keys, and I asked the staff multiple times to split our bill since my friends had made the reservation. They outright refused to do so, for reasons that still baffle me. When I finally got into my room, I noticed several issues. First, the ice machine was out of order—I find this surprising since ice is a basic feature at most hotels. After some time, I discovered that the restaurant next door was more than happy to fill my ice bucket. The room also lacked sufficient storage space. Additionally, the cable TV only worked intermittently. I spent a lot of time in the room—despite my efforts to be out exploring—but there were times when I wished for a functioning TV. Honestly, I didn't even bother reporting this to the staff; I knew it wouldn't help and would likely just frustrate me more. I should mention that the room had no air conditioning, which is expected, but it faced a walkway that led from the hotel to the main street, resulting in constant noise even with earplugs. As for room quality, I’ve attached two pictures to illustrate my points (yes, I might be a little whiny). One shows a ceiling fan caked with dust, and the other reveals poorly designed bed drawers at the foot of the bed. In a larger room, these drawers could have been useful, but in this one, they were a dangerous tripping hazard and should be removed immediately. By the end of the week, with just one ceiling fan and one window for ventilation, the room began to feel a bit... uninviting. Three guys, three beds, one shower—it was a basic setup with the bare necessities. Breakfast was underwhelming, and I skipped it entirely. I brought my own food from home, which I highly recommend. On the positive side, the hotel is excellently located, and the adjoining restaurant is quite good. The shops and downtown Sitka are charming, especially since the cruise ships bring in tourists looking for activities—Sitka sees 2 to 4 cruise ships daily. In short, if you're weighing your options, I would suggest choosing an Airbnb or another hotel. Note that the Westmark Hotel is likely under the same management or shares a shuttle service with them. Either way, I would not consider staying at Sitka Hotel again.
Sadly, very unhappy with our 4 night stay this past July 2023. Regarding the room, it was a very small double bed, not even a queen size, my husband and I barely fit! The room was muggy with very poor ventilation, no fan, only a heater which we did not need. “Breakfast” was granola bars and cereals with milk, nothing else but the absolute worse part of our stay made our stay from bad to a nightmare was the bars near us with very loud music every night. We were on the second floor and the bar lounge that belong to the hotel was extremely loud the first night we got there, to the point where our room was vibrating and we couldn’t hear our own TV , we had to call the receptionist at 10 o’clock at night, thankfully, they turned it off after that call. There was another bar that was may be 50-100 feet away from from the hotel which was also very loud. This continued all weekend. Long story short, between the small bed situation, and the loud music from the bars, we slept very poorly all weekend. Cannot not recommended this hotel enough.
The location was ideal for my stay in Sitka, and the view from the hotel was stunning. However, I found the hotel room to be lacking in cleanliness, and there was no air conditioning, making it quite hot. The breakfast area was also very dirty. Additionally, the front desk staff did not communicate well and were not particularly helpful.
This hotel is really really nice. I am blown away by the quality for the price. The shower is amazing and the water is nice and hot. They picked me up from the airport and dropped me off on time. The breakfast is not good so avoid it. It has coin laundryon site and I heard there is a jacuzzi suite penthouse on top but that it?s super expensive. This hotel is is in the center ofit all and I don?t think I?ll stay anywhere else in town next time I visit.
Adequate but I wouldn?t recommend staying here. Unfriendly and unhelpful staff, unresponsive to phone calls, messages, and other forms of communication (faxes? The hotel was quite noisy, lots of sound between floors and through walls. K-cup coffee wasgood, though! And location is convenient. Try elsewhere if it?s available!
