Easy to get to. good parking, limited menu it seemed at the moment. Doing some good things for covid prevention. Three of us went had steak and ale pie, Cambodian curry and steak. I had had ale pie which I found to be hard and microwaved or just overcooked. I had a wonderful home cooked one the day before at the white hart Broadoak. This one was the other end of the scale. Tough pastry, less meat and so dry, chips ni... View all feedback.
What hollowa2016 doesn't like about The Squirrel:
We ordered a range of food and none of it from the Xmas menu. Service was ok although the server struggled with the variety of orders and the tablet device they were using. Service was also very slow despite the pub not being that full. The food was nively cooked though ad areasonable price. Most people enjoyed what they were served. The rotisserie chicken was very generous but he chicken satay was served more like a... View all feedback.
As always great service lovely food. Great to see Zeryn who always makes our visit extra special. Would recommend this place .
Great service from Helen and the team. Food and drinks were of good standard. All in all a good stop for lunch whilst out on the road.
Staying at the hotel next door, and called here for convenience. Decent chain pub food at a good price, good selection of drinks and plenty of choice on the menu. Sat outside in the sun for pre meal drinks, very pleasant, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. But what was really great about this place was Andy, the manager, nothing was too much trouble and really took time to chat about our visit, the pub, area etc. What makes good pubs is good staff who care and Andy is a credit to Marston's who leads by example. All very covid safe and it was good to see young staff challenging customers on not wearing mask's etc.
On bank holiday Monday August 2020, my wife and I were met by an enthusiastic young woman who directed us to our table. I must however admit that I didn 't feel very safe. As we are all aware, we are in the midst of a global pandemic, but did we get temperature checked? No we jolly well did not! We weren 't even asked to sanitize our hands, and not a single member of staff wore a mask, or sanitized themselves between interaction with various tables. Although I did like the fact that menus are disposed of after use. Now, going on to the food. I must admit this was rather delightful, and I have no criticism to raise on this matter. Saying that, in the future, the chefs could provide more gravy with the chicken, as it is a little dry.As our waitress was clearing our plates, my wife noticed that there isn 't an appropriate uniform amongst staff. One young lady in particular, when questioned on this matter, thought it would be 'fashionable ' to turn up to work wearing horrible coloured footwear. I completely disagree. On the whole, our trip to the Squirrel was adequate. If we were not attempting to survive a pandemic, it would have been rather enjoyable and not stressful. Perhaps, it was a matter of being at the right place at the wrong time. We may return when one day after the Coronavirus.
This place has come along in leaps and bounds since last time we were here. Excellent service, friendly staff and good food.
