I visited this restaurant on a rainy Friday evening in November and was glad to discover a welcoming and cozy atmosphere. The restaurant had a nice mix of tourists and locals, was dog-friendly, and had a lovely roaring log fire. All the staff were efficient and friendly. We were even treated to a group of folk musicians, which was a nice bonus. We enjoyed our meals and drinks. View all feedback.
What fleurs111 doesn't like about The Blue Boar:
I am surprised by the good reviews which is why myself and partner visited this pub on our first visit to Ludlow. First impression, dark, dingy, depressing and cold. Not inspired whatsoever by decor or furnishings to stay for a meal stack of dirty,... View all feedback.
A beautiful old pub with great character and friendly staff. mix of local and tourist. good choice of beer and wine as well as delicious food. we loved it.
Turned up with no reservation and despite being very busy, the staff found us a table outside (which was great as it was sunny). They later returned to say we could eat inside if we wished. We all ate Sunday lunch, Beef, Turkey and Vegetarian...which were all nice and hot and very tasty with a good selection of vegetables. Very friendly and helpful staff.
This was a typical 'old English pub ' with beams, dark woodwork and stone floor. They has some good real ales on, food was good to with the added benefit of some gluten free cooked meals too. Staff were friendly and it was nice to sit...out in the beer garden at the back.
So I think 4 stars is me being generous, but I originally wrote a 3 star review and felt that was a bit harsh. The menu is a mish mash of Greek and pub grub. Our friends chicken souvlaki looked really good, my chickpea and...chorizo stew was fine, but the only extras were a tiny pot of coleslaw and it felt quite pricey for what it was. Hubbys sausages were undercooked and anaemic looking and the mash had been emptied out of a serving bowl in some weird attempt to make it look good. I’d been looking forward to baklava which I’d seen on the online menu, but as the Greek chef has now left had to make do with ice cream, which was fine. Staff were pleasant and service reasonable. This place needs to redo the menu and concentrate on getting the basics right.
Had a fab meal in this lovely pub last week, called in with our little dog, got seated, service great, ordered chicken souvlaki with trimmings, absolutely so tasty and tender, was one of the better meals we had in Ludlow, if we lived here, would...be in every week, thanks for a great night
