For larger groups, there are cozy cabin seats available at the bar. However, space is limited, so reservations are recommended for weekends. If you prefer just bar seating, they can accommodate that as well. Please note that outside food is not permitted, so plan to eat at HopCat or another nearby spot before or after your visit. Ideally, you’ll want to grab a bite beforehand so you can dive straight into your first of many drinks without delay!
The drink menu features a variety of rum mixes, and they even have a shared bowl option for groups. I must say, the drinks pack a punch! It’s a fantastic spot to unwind with friends, chat, and simply enjoy the atmosphere, which genuinely feels like you’ve escaped somewhere else entirely—not just in Kansas City. When the staff isn't too busy, they're quite accommodating. Plus, they have their own restrooms, so you won't need to venture into the main HopCat facilities. The service was friendly, and we definitely plan to return next time!
Entering Tikicat through a secret door offers a truly unique experience from the get-go. If you're seeking something different from the usual bar scene, the ambiance here is unlike anything I've encountered in Kansas City. The drinks were delicious and unlike anything I've had before. I tried Don's Own Grog and I'll likely order it again on my next visit. The prices were a bit higher than I'm accustomed to, but the quality makes it worth every penny!
This is an outstanding tiki bar that could easily compete with the best in the country. The decor features an eclectic mix of vintage furniture for lounging, and the drink menu, created by Martin Cate, is fantastic. The interior, designed by Bamboo Ben, is inviting, complemented by a friendly and engaging staff. The soundtrack for your evening includes a nice blend of slow, moody exotic tunes, faster surf rock, and even some punk. For larger groups, there are cozy hut seating areas away from the bar. The space is somewhat limited, so I recommend making reservations on weekends, though you can take your chances for bar seating. Keep in mind that outside food is not permitted, so plan to dine either at HopCat or somewhere else before or after your visit—preferably before, as you might not want to leave once you start enjoying your first of many drinks!
Having lived in the Midwest my entire life, I was surprised to discover a tiki bar here. So when I found out that Hopcat has one, we decided to check it out and made a reservation through OpenTable with our group of friends. You might be wondering, what exactly is a tiki bar? It’s an exotic-themed drinking venue that serves elaborate cocktails, particularly rum-based drinks like the well-known mai tai and zombie cocktails. Tiki bars are characterized by their vibrant decor, which draws on a romanticized version of tropical cultures. They offer a variety of rum cocktails and even shareable bowls. I have to say, the drinks are quite strong! It's a wonderful place to relax, chat, and enjoy time with friends, as it feels like an escape from Kansas City. They sometimes accept walk-ins if it’s not too busy. The bar has its own restrooms, so you won’t need to go to the main Hopcat facilities. The staff are friendly, and we’re definitely planning to return next time!
