When I returned to the... read more This is still the best bbq in the city! I found this place over 10 years ago when I was in Jacksonville for just a brief period of time. When I returned to the city, I started looking for Mr. King again. I'm not on this side of town very often, but when I am, I drive over to see if the smoker is going. If it is, I pull into the lot at the corner of King and Lexington and wait for him to open. My go to order is ribs, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens. I placed my order and waited for a little bit and watched the line start to grow. As I drove home, I could smell the smoked meat in the car, and I could barely wait to get my teeth into it. The ribs are tender, smoky, and flavorful even without any sauce. I get the mustard sauce and the mild sauce on the side though as they are delicious! The sides that come with the meat plate are good, but he is definitely known for the barbecue!This place is cash only and he is only open on Sundays starting at 12:30. Prices have increased some with a rib dinner and two sides being $17. To me though, the value is there. If you're over this way, definitely stop in.
