TOURIST TRAP: STAY AWAY! We were having dinner with a few families. The staff was very unfriendly to us and failed to serve the food we had paid for so I literally had to go to the bar kitchen several times to ask for the fondue cheese or extra bread. In the meantime they just came by to serve extra drinks which seems to be their business model. It was crazy hot inside like last year when we were here and they forbid us to open up a window even a little bit.. We won't come back here ever again.

Authentic country restaurant 30 minutes walk from Serfaus. Hearty Austrian fare cooked on their wood fired grill. We went twice once for New Years Eve and once on a regular evening. Staff were very welcoming and made a big effort on both evenings. Food was great particularly the local lamb and venison, which they told us was also from a local hunter. Kaiserschmarren for desert was huge and one of the best I’ve tried. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. As a plus the walk from Serfaus offers great views of Serfaus by night and if you have a clear evening the stars are spectacular.

I visited the Madatschen twice last week, returning a second time because both the food and the hosts were fabulous. There is a relaxed atmosphere with a traditional feel to the entire experience. The food is authentic and artisan. It is homely yet professional and it is obvious that there is a huge amount of care it what is presented together with sincere pride. The meat is fresh and I would highly recommend both the venison and the lamb main dishes. High quality locally reared/hunted stock. You can’t beat that. All the staff make you feel welcome and the hosts, (Lucia and Lucas) were there all the time, so you know that everything that leaves the kitchen has the final approval from them. The meat dishes are cooked in the dining area on a wood stove, so nothing is hidden from you. Booking a table is highly recommended. If you like relaxed dining and eating high quality meat dishes, then this is the place for you.
