I got there at around 2.30pm and they were still serving lunch, not a huge range of options but still enough to fill your plate. The staff was very helpful and spoke excellent English. A nice peaceful place to eat, it's rather small and quiet.

The owner was friendly and took the time to explain different alternative options for finding vegetarian food. She also offered us some persimmon, even though it wasn't part of the regular spread. This restaurant is a great choice for oriental vegetarians who avoid certain spices like onion, leek, and garlic. This review has been updated from a previous one dated November 21, 2016.

This is a restaurant operated by a Taiwanese Buddhist temple. Hence it serves strict Buddhist vegetarian food (no eggs, no onion/garlic/chives, may have some dairy products though rare). The food here is mostly Taiwanese style with some Korean dishes. The dishes are home cook food and they are all wholesome and tasty. The food is so good it is tempting to overeat! Moderation and mindfulness is required. Lunch (11:00-2:30) is a buffet spread of rice, vegetable dishes and a soup. After 2:30, it serves a set meal of rice and various small dishes. The meals are 7000won per person. The objective of the restaurant is to serve vegetarians rather than make money. It is very convenient to reach via the subway. Get off at Dongguk University stop. It in the alley on the left just a few steps from exit no. 2.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Literally. You need to go into the basement of a building to find it. The options we were able to eat were entirely vegan though there may be some vegetarian options so it's still important to classify if you don't fancy dairy etc.

Zander and I searched out Jeoksubang based on the great reviews here on Happy Cow. And a lunch became a wonderful afternoon event. The first thing you will notice upon entering the building is a beautiful Buddhist temple prayer room. The restaurant is downstairs below the prayer room. The food is delicious just like Mom would cook if Mom happened to be from Taiwan and Korea. And the most reasonably priced meal in Seoul. I noticed that they had a large selection of teas and asked the incredible Iris (previously mentioned in reviews) about the tea. What happened? Iris gave us a full Chinese tea ceremony while educating us about tea preparation and serving. So lunch became an afternoon and Iris became a friend. Highly recommended for food and tea. And Iris says she also makes a mean cup of coffee which we can't wait to try on our next visit.
