Feedback
Nestled in a charming locale, this restaurant offers a mix of experiences, revealing both highs and lows. While several patrons laud the excellent service and delightful food, particularly the burgers, others express frustration over underwhelming meals and slow service. Complaints about poorly cooked roasts and unacknowledged special occasions marred some celebrations. However, the warm hospitality of staff, especially at the bar, shone through, with efforts made to accommodate guests’ needs. While the ambiance and potential for great dining are evident, consistency in food quality and service appears crucial for enhancing future visits. Overall, a venue with promise yet room for improvement.
Extremely and disappointingly less than average Sunday lunch on November 5th. Served under heated so a few meals of the 14 had to be sent back thus disrupting the meal. Poor and limited choice of meals available and for Christ's sake if you are going to advertise and sell Sunday dinners please don't then give us a list of what you don't have left
On my visit to the bower inn right from the moment I walked in I felt welcomed, food was amazing, service amazing, 100% will visit again
Awful rubbery Roast beef.. very difficult to cut let alone chew, tiny portions of meat. We ate about an inch of ok meat from it. I had to swap my chicken so my elderly mother had something , other than the veg.The chicken was also a small leg and the other small piece on the bone. Very difficult for elderly people, and dangerous as my father has dementia. Staff are nice and helpful and did eventually take off the charge of the worst excuse of Sunday Roast.
My visit to this restaurant on Wednesday was delightful. The accommodations were wonderful and the staff was extremely friendly. The food was excellent and I highly recommend this place.
Based on the Bower inn’s website, my husband and I decided to book a table for dinner Sunday at 7:30pm. Based on the description of the pub’s passion for good food, local sourcing of ingredients and menu we we’re looking forward to our dinner. The pub itself also looked welcoming. Unfortunately, when we walked in we had a completely disappointing experience. We were immediately told we had three minutes to order before the kitchen closed even thought on the website the kitchen was open until 8pm, and we were asked for our drink order before we had even sat at our table or had looked at the menu. Things proceeded to go downhill from there. Service was poor. We had to chase staff to get wine or anything else we wanted once our meal was served. Meals came within 5 minutes of ordering and were clearly pre-cooked without much care for quality. Our salad was ice cold and clearly pulled directly from the fridge. A side of broccoli was nearly raw and the veg with the roast looked and tasted re-warmed. While the vegetarian burger was very good, the roast pork was average. We had to chase after staff to order a second round of drinks. All-in-all we were in and out in under an hour having had one of the most disappointing and up relaxing dinners ever when we’d expected to have an enjoyable and relaxing evening. We spoke to the assistant manager about the problems we’d had. She accepted they’d fallen short and took the appropriate action, but still we left feeling dissatisfied, rushed and disappointed. The Bower Inn clearly has potential to provide excellent hospitality, but they obviously need to be honest with customers on kitchen and bar closing times before bookings are accepted and need to then provide a decent level of service and food quality to match what they claim on their website.
