Inside, the dining... read more As I entered, an Uber Eats driver rushed in and quickly left with a bag of food, suggesting that someone was about to enjoy breakfast in bed. Inside, the dining area was clean and brightly lit, and there was only one other customer present. With no one at the front to show me to a table, I decided to whistle a Christmas carol to get attention. Eventually, a man came over. After confirming I was dining alone, he took his time selecting just the right table from the empty options. I don’t know what criteria he used, but it turned out to be a good choice. Once seated, I asked for coffee. For those who regularly read my reviews, you know I like to order chicken fried steak as a benchmark for breakfast spots. But given that IHOP is a chain, it felt a bit unfair to judge them on that alone. If I wanted to see them shine, I should have gone for pancakes, right? Still feeling a bit cheeky, I opted for the chicken fried steak. The food arrived quickly and was about what I expected: quite bland and unexciting. On the plus side, it came with a side of pancakes. One of my fond childhood memories was the variety of syrups available. Nowadays, you have to specifically ask for anything other than the standard maple syrup on the table. Since the staff member had disappeared into the back, I stuck with maple. I spread a little butter between the pancakes and drenched them in syrup. What I tasted was delightful. It was nice to see they still held true to their classic reputation. Next time I visit, I’ll definitely order pancakes with a side of pancakes!
