Bunsoy - Seattle
Bunsoy
Description
The new seafood restaurant has garnered mixed reviews, often highlighting the outstanding crab cake as a standout dish. However, other selections, such as oysters and various entrees, have received criticism due to grittiness and overpricing. Service experiences varied from attentive to lackluster, with some diners appreciating accommodating staff while others noted delays. While the vibrant atmosphere and unique drink offerings received praise, noise levels hindered conversation. Diners urged the establishment to enhance multiple aspects, including menu variety and portion sizes, leaving patrons divided on whether they would return for future visits.

The dining experience was not terrible, but it fell short of being particularly outstanding, especially considering the price. The entrees and appetizers were overly salty and lacked the traditional Filipino flavors I was hoping for. The bistek, while a decent steak, seemed to be seasoned simply with salt and pepper, failing to truly embody the flavors of bistek. The adobo had a similar issue, lacking the signature taste of adobo and being overly salty. On the bright side, the cocktails were delicious. If you're looking for authentic Filipino cuisine, this may not be the best choice, but if you're in the mood for decent food in general, it could be worth a try to form your own opinion.
Excellent service; very helpful and informative, as this was our first time with filipino eating. we have enjoyed our experience and look forward to the return now that we have a better idea of which quantities and selections work for us.
On a calm Tuesday evening, only two other tables were occupied at the restaurant. We ordered the Kale Caesar Salad, Crab Cake, and Sablefish. All the dishes were delicious, though the salad had too much dressing for our liking. The crab cake, priced at a hefty $33, was large and came alone on the plate. The sablefish, priced at $37, was accompanied by a tasty broth. Considering the prices of the entrees, we expected them to come with additional accompaniments on the plate.
My dining partner and I shared the crab cake and scallop risotto, both of which were incredibly fresh and tasty. Despite the unusually cold Seattle weather, we were seated at the communal fire table in the center of the restaurant, where we found it uncomfortably chilly. Even our server kept her jacket on throughout the entire evening. Unfortunately, this somewhat affected our overall dining experience as we ate quickly and left soon after. However, I would definitely consider returning on a warm summer evening.
