Me and the family popped in here tonight, what a great little place. Together we had the chocolate pudding, vanilla bean, and the salted caramel I've cream. Based on our experience and the small taste of the marionberry ice cream I can strongly recommend this parlor. View all feedback.
Decent ice cream, I think it would have been better if I had gotten one of the flavors the guy behind the counter had recommended. Supposedly the peanut butter, snickerdoodle, the beer flavors are the best
I must admit, I was skeptical of another ice cream joint on the hill but this place blew me away. Old School Frozen Custard and Molly Moon's have surprisingly been outdone by Bluebird in the taste of the ice cream, atmosphere friendliness of staff (seems like a great bunch). The ice cream is like nothing I've ever had... the Elysian stout flavor is particularly unique and delicious. The space has lots of character and just makes you want to spend time there. Make no mistake, Bluebird has chosen to compete in many areas (ice cream, tea, coffee free wifi, locally grown/produced foods, live music) but makes no compromises. They have carved out a niche all their own on the hill.
Salted caramel ice cream is quite salty and puzzlingly complex for how light it first seems a wonderful achievement. Both the PB and chocolate chunk are deeply flavorful without the common mistake of overloading on the featured ingredients. These flavors remember that they are still ice cream, after all. Lovingly crafted. The sparse, funky/junky atmosphere disguises some real sophistication behind the counter, so that you feel like you've stumbled onto an undiscovered gem.
The smell coming out the doors and windows of this place is stellar. The Ice Cream is fresh, inventive, and changes with the season. The space is also a great place, full of games to play with friends. There's also a pretty good draft beer selection. They work with a lot of different businesses in the area to source their flavors, from Stumptown Coffee, Theo Chocolate, to Elysian Brewery.
