I missed lunch and decided to have an afternoon snack at the restaurant. The burrata and prosciutto small plate was perfect. The hard cider was refreshing on a hot day. The server was excellent. Unfortunately, the family at the nearest table seemed to have unruly children, but that was not the restaurant's fault. I was in and out quickly, but overall it was a great experience. What User doesn't like about The State Room:
The food was very mediocre and the service was friendly but either the waitress was given too many tables or just disorganized. It was fairly loud so the two of us had to talk in loud voices. I got a special cocktail but it didn't taste very good (it was ginger beer with orange and strawberry, I think). The prices were on par with other local brew pubs. View all feedback.
Great food. Fresh ingredients and good flavors. The pork belly grits deviled eggs appetizers were our choice this time. The salads are lovely and not over dressed
Very good but expensive for what you get. Cesar salad with salmon has not that much romaine for $12 in the first place, and the added salmon consists of a few small strips (which, however, are excellent). We loved the Earl Gray creme brulee. 2 salads, 1 dessert, 1 iced tea and 1 Pellegrino $70 with tax and tip. That's a lot.
Excellent pizza and great deals on draft beer. Sidewalk seating can be a bit noisy, there was a service lift with a loud beep going on during half of our lunch.
Went with my BF early on Saturday night so wasn't too noisy. Our waitress was really enthusiastic about the restaurant and the quality of the food and the flavors were good. Only reason I gave it a 3-star rating for the food is that my halibut was overdone and dry. Our waitress offered to replace it but it was edible and I was half way through anyway so I declined, but she was gracious enough to comp us a glass of wine and my BF's coffee as compensation. BF had a burger and enjoyed it very much. The place has real potential and we will definitely give it another try. San Rafael is pretty grim for fine dining with only a couple of good options...hope this turns out to be another good one on our next visit. Nice ambiance and we stayed around to shoot a game of pool and the other arcade game they have there. I won both games and that's a good thing!
My husband and I love this place, especially the 'Fire Cracker Beans '. I have never had a bad meal there. I 've had a small appetizer and a veggie sandwich/wrap, and a pizza on several different occasions. My hubbie LOVES the fried chicken. And the beer is excellent, but they also have a full bar. It can get noisy on the weekends but that 's a fun vibe. Thursday night it was busy but not too crowded and we had a great time.
