Very good udon broth, it's super flavorful and comes with a lot of veggies. There's a combo option to add a smaller rice bowl which was also really good. affordable and delicious! View all feedback.
What Madhu Jay doesn't like about Suzu Japanese:
This restaurant clearly doesn't understand what tsukemen is. The broth was too diluted and did not possess the rich flavor typical of proper tsukemen; it was even more watery than ramen. The noodles were just standard ramen noodles, lacking the chewy texture that tsukemen is known for. Additionally, the spicy miso tasted more like tomato sauce than anything else. This is restaurant for sure doesn't know what tsukemen is. The broth was watered down, unlike the rich tsukemen broth, it was watery than ramen. And the noodles was standard ramen noodles, not the chewy tsukemen noodles. And the spicy miso tasted more like tomato sauce. To top it off they just piled on a bunch of toppings that just didn't belong in tsukemen.
This is a great spot in Japantown! I absolutely loved my kimchi udon. If you go for ramen then I think miso is the best bet. The soy sauce ramen was good, it just wasn’t as special as the udon.
I tend to throw caution to the wind when my dad gets excited about a restaurant like will it be good? One of his criteria is bargain eating things costing under $20 and big portions. This place does hit the mark on that. This is why there are long lines for this place. Like other reviewers said just because it's long lines doesn't mean it's excellent mind blowing food. So with that summary you can see why the reviews are split from being bad, average and great. It depends on your personal preference in what type of food you are looking for. So yes, if you bargain hunter then you will like this I ordered the extra Tempura Don with rice combination with my main dish Karaage with Japanese fried chicken Ramen. I was satisfied with my Tempura craving so that was good. The fried chicken I have to admit is the highlight and you should order it outside the soup so you will enjoy the crispiness of it. With that, I rate the fried chicken an A because it had great flavor, tenderness and crispness that was very yummy in my tummy. It gave great flavor to the otherwise no much flavor soup. My dad ordered the Chicken Veggie Ramen this has lots of veggies which was good and of course he enjoyed everything he ate. No complaints from him. Mom ordered Cha Shu Ramen with lots noodles and one bok choy and she like me complained about why only one bok choy stem?! Slices of pork were good. Like why can't you add 6 more veggies to it?! She said she will not travel this far for this ramen. It is good but something is missing. Are veggies expensive?! All noodles served pipping up, safe to eat mostly noddles than vegetables, perhaps fast comfort food under $20 for main dish is reason to go here. You will be full for sure. But if you are like me who wants to be wowed and impressed with the taste and quality , then this is not restaurant for you.
*Chicken Veggie Ramen Karaage Don combo: lots of veggies!!!! Karaage don is wonderful to split among 3 since there's only 3 chicken on top of the bowl of rice*Spicy Tofu Ramen: Kimchi is surprisingly close to the taste of Kimchi you'd eat from Korea (according to our parents), for the tofu and kimchi loverChashu ramen: chasu is not overly fatty! That's what I consider high qualityThere's three south broths you can choose from!We had originally come in as a family of five with our two dogs. The staff had let other people with smaller parties in first, so we had to follow up to ask if they can divide our party with us kiddos sitting separate from our parents and the dog. They quickly accommodated us. Service was quick, and when we asked for recommendations for soup broth combos and what they recommend in the menu, we really liked what we were recommended! The portions are generous for $15 per ramen bowl.Vegetarian options: There’s a good number!
