Contribute Feedback What Jonathan P doesn't like about The Governor:
We ordered food via their website. When we went to pick up food the third party dispensing place told me they are closed permanently. Reached out to Facebook messenger and they refunded. I'm bummed they aren't open as easily. View all feedback.
My first order I said. “The most authentic best tasting Fish and Chips you can get period in the Bay Area.” My most recent order 10/13/2021 they literally went to the worst. Wild move in loss of quality. Won’t order from here again.

It's been a few months since I last had the Governor and I'm still conflicted about the meal. As someone who spent their childhood in North Yorkshire and still has extended family there, I often miss fish and chips and mushy peas. I pretty much gave up ordering fish and chips in the U.S. because I was always disappointed by the batter and flavor. I decided to give the Governor takeout a try in spite of this history because of what I read on Yelp. I wish I could rate each part of the meal individually because the FISH was delicious. Probably the best fried fish I've had in California. The batter was clearly fried in something closer to beef tallow like in the little chippy shops in Yorkshire where you still get fish wrapped in newspapers with a little wooden spork. The chips were hearty and tasty. If that was all I had ordered it would have been an easy 4 stars. The Yorkshire puddings my roommate got were also a welcome taste of home. HOWEVER the mushy peas were egregiously offensive to a Brit that knows the taste of authentic mushy peas. Any Yorkshire person will know that you need to use marrowfat peas and cook them down over time, in the same way that people are familiar with cooking down pinto beans to the consistency of re fried beans. What I received from the Governor was a carton of frozen peas that had been boiled and served whole with chopped onions and mint?? This may have been healthier (trying to look for a positive here) but I was pretty outraged that this was labeled mushy peas. Maybe whoever runs this establishment has never had real mushy peas? Or hoped to reinvent a quicker and easier side? Either way, the fish and chips here are worth a try but I do not trust the Governor with any other classics like mushy peas. Please don't mislead any other homesick Brits with this misnomer this is a bowl of frozen peas.
I was excited to try the fish and chips. Their website said they're open, nothing on social media, and I place my order. It goes through. I go to pick up my food from their shared ghost kitchen and the staff said they are not there. Closed today, but they accepted my money. If you're closed, it is important to communicate that to your customers.
Ordered the fish and chips via Doordash. Though the fish was hand dipped the smell was less than pleasant (probably due to frying in old oil) and while the hand cut fries were tasty the salt was way over the top. If you are hankerin for fish and chips this place delivers but they could do better especially given that this is the Bay Area.
