What User doesn't like about James' Place:
They do not carry Hinken O or any other NA beer. Same old menu. We are regular playgoers and returning dinner guests. Need somethings new. Need some variety please. Prices are based on your overhead, not on the quality of the food. Our dinner bill last night was $108.00 before the gratuity. The beef ribs were a bit tough. We were here for a quick dinner before a play at the La Jolla Playhouse. I’ve learned from a previous visit, so we were ready to order as soon as our server came to the table. We then asked for the check when the food came. The entire restaurant was going to the play, so it was important to manage time well. It was just apps, but we loved the crispy rice with spicy tuna, the tuna tacos and the shishito peppers. We also had to save room for a chocolate chip cookie at intermission!
The food was good but the service was very slow and the noise level a little too high to enjoy a pleasant conversation.
The food was outstanding! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and it is conveniently located within steps of the La Jolla Playhouse. Nice ambiance. Our waitress was polite and professional, but service was a bit slow. However, we made it to the play in time. It is a bit pricey, but so worth it! I highly recommend!
Very pleasant meal and convenient to the Playhouse.
Waited for 20 minutes for my food after my wife was already served! Asked for extra crispy tofu and it was actually mushy, cold and was not crisp at all. Even getting water refilled required major effort. Also very noisy.
