We purchase fresh fish from The Catch at least once a week. It is consistently excellent, no matter how we prepare it. We frequently call ahead and they always have our order ready for pick-up. I highly recommend this restaurant. View all feedback.
What Jerry Lee doesn't like about Five Oceans Fish Market:
I am surprised by the number of positive reviews for this restaurant. I recently ordered a dozen oysters to eat on site, but they had a strong, rotten odor that indicated they were not fresh. Five Oceans offers a delicious tuna melt and crab salad sandwich. The menu, displayed on a big board, had a variety of burger and sandwich options, but ordering fresh fish was a bit confusing. As a result, we opted for sandwiches. Some of the employees seemed to be younger students who were still learning the ropes. When asked about the bread options, there was some hesitation before they mentioned they only had sourdough and rye, so we chose rye. We enjoyed our meal on a nice day, sitting outside as we waited for our food. The staff checked in on us a couple of times to reassure us that our dishes were on the way. The crab salad sandwich stood out with its generous amount of crab meat and delicious flavors. It was accompanied by coleslaw and potato salad, although unfortunately the potato salad was undercooked so we left it untouched.
I am surprised by the number of positive reviews for this restaurant. I recently ordered a dozen oysters to eat on site, but they had a strong, rotten odor that indicated they were not fresh. When I asked for a refund or exchange for fresh oysters, the staff refused and insisted that they were fresh. Despite my years of experience eating oysters, I could not understand why the staff claimed they were fresh when the smell clearly indicated otherwise. I did not eat any of the oysters and left the restaurant feeling very dissatisfied. I recommend avoiding the oysters if you choose to dine here. Overall, my experience was disappointing and I do not understand the high ratings this establishment has received.
This restaurant is a hidden gem! The customer service is amazing and the staff is super friendly. I highly recommend trying the salmon poke bowl with octopus - it's delicious!
Not your average poke joint! Decided to order takeout from here while shopping at Trader Joe 's. Menu doesn 't list prices poke is market price. I was a little taken aback when I showed up and it was $19 that 's of course higher than other places around like Pokewan, Seasurf or Fish District. BUT there 's a reason for this: the poke is *extremely* fresh (they told me it was just off literally arrived) and there were HUGE chunks, much bigger than at any of these joints. So they clearly take fish very seriously here and so it really was all about the raw fresh fish. The one other thing I was disappointed about was the rice. They ask if you want brown or white: I said brown... they gave me white anyway. And the rice was pretty warm. That means by the time I got home, it had started to cook the poke just a bit. If I ate there, it might not have mattered. Also, the only sauce they give you is soy. SO...if you want REALLY REALLY FRESH delicious salmon, and you don 't mind paying several dollars more for poke than at other places in CV/DM? Come check them out! They 're really friendly. The also give you a TON of rice and a generous serving of avo, along with some edamame and carrots (I 'm not a big fan of the seaweed salad and just removed that). Just keep in mind that if you really care about whether it 's white or brown rice, let them know! I may come back for one of their sandwiches too, which are fixed price, not market. I really did enjoy my poke bowl, all things considered. (having spring mix as a base option would be lovely too, and with some sauce options but the fish was so fresh it really did not need any sauce).
They had already sold out of salmon and tuna poke when I arrived in the late afternoon. I was sad, but my bad for being too late. They did have a little spicy salmon poke which was offered to me, but I told them that I am a tuna girl. They brought out the last few pieces of ahi and offered to cut up, which I accepted. To my surprise, after a few minutes, I was presented with a beautifully dressed bowl of ahi poke. I thought I was going to have to diy at home. I ended up buying the rest of the salmon sashimi as well. My family was thrilled with how fresh and perfectly seasoned the poke was. If you want great service and pristine fish, you cant go wrong with Five Oceans. It is worth it.
