We celebrated our 21st anniversary at Haciendo del Sol and took advantage of their summer staycation package. We enjoyed the patio dining atmosphere at Terraza, with wonderful options for both food and beverage. The staff was very attentive and even treated us with a special anniversary dessert surprise. What Dora Boyer doesn't like about Sushiraw:
The service was very good, but the food was average; old lime slices, fish not so fresh. I was surprised the chef let the fish tacos leave the kitchen...unacceptable! View all feedback.
Despite the fact that it is ON 19th and has huge windows out onto 19th, it's not actually loud in there. Relatively small place, had to wait a few minutes to get a seat at the bar at 8pm, on Saturday, but they do take reservations, so that could be avoided. It's actually pretty fun to sit at the bar because you see the sushi guys doing their thing and it's impressive how fast they move and how hard they work! My favorite of the night was the vegetarian roll with mango, cucumber, avo, and seaweed salad on top. The mango was a good addition and the seaweed salad was really crunchy and delicious. The Shrimp Tempura and Chicken Teriyaki Roll were both also quite good. I like the Swamp Roll the least I think because it only had the sweet potato in it and just wasn't complex enough. If you purchase $20 off the menu then they have a special menu which you can order something else off of for cheaper which is cool (a small beer for example is only $2). It looked like they had some really fun specials too like a LIVE urchin, and other sashimi platters served on ice with lights (advantage of sitting at the bar sight seeing). The way they managed the making of sushi was interesting. They made some of ours and then they paused, made other peoples, and then made more of ours. Not a bad model maybe this is what everyone does, but noticed it here particularly.
Open late with quality nigiri. Perfect after a late night workout or airport pickup. Ramen is good and the sushi is definitely worth the trip. $16 for 8 pieces is a great deal in this city and the quality and freshness of the fish is spot on. Also there is a $1 menu if your order is $15 or more which gives you the choice of sushi, oysters, or beer/sake for one dollar. Come on man! Better than the $1 menu at McDonald's!!!! JYW recommends!
Time for another 3.5 star grab bag! You never know what you'll get with 3.5ers, and it seems like the complaints for Sushiraw are a pretty good mix of slow service, sushi quality, and cleanliness. I'd say in terms of quality, don't come here if you're looking for a fancy, expensive sushi experience. Come here if you're just craving sushi or you're hungry. So keep that in mind. I personally loved Sushiraw. I came here with my SO after a long day at work, on a cold, misty night. It was quiet and laid-back, and the server seemed friendly enough. We ordered the sashimi combo, the chicken udon, the devil mountain roll, and the shrimp tempura roll. The sashimi combo was alright and I loved the chicken udon. The broth was flavorful and the chicken was tender, although I did wish there was another fish cake (there was only one). We loved the devil mountain and the shrimp tempura rolls! They were super tasty. Also, the presentation is pretty cool--the sashimi plate came on a light up tray! And the other rolls we ordered were pretty neatly arranged. I'd say the only downsides were that the sashimi combo wasn't the freshest, and I did think the chicken udon was a little heavy on the vegetables and could've used more chicken and fish cake. Overall though, this place is pretty good for being a sushi place in the sunset at these prices. Some people come in expecting Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and this just isn't that kind of place. So, you get what you pay for and if you want the best sushi in the world, of course you're going to be disappointed.
Tl;dr Parking was kinda rough, but the food was good. Sushi Raw wasent busy when we arrived and immediately got sat. Our server was nice and quick to take our order. We did have to remind her that we ordered tea but that was no big deal. We ordered the 3 item bento box (Tonkatsu, Short Ribs, and mixed Tempura), Philly Roll, and Seaweed Salad. The bento box was good. The tempura and Tonkatsu were nice and crispy, not burnt. The short ribs were tender and not drenched in sauce. The philly roll had a good ratio of cream cheese to salmon. Seaweed salad was good as well. Bathroom is very narrow though so some people might have to squeeze.
Sushi raw . What can you say , once you have found parking. We came on a Friday night around 6:45 we found the place not crowded. I figure that this is because of parking. We ordered the sushi deluxe meal. My wife wanted to order the lobster roll, the Waitress with purple hair suggested to order the whole lobster for a couple of dollars more, so I said why not , wow the wow factor was worth it. It taste was good not knock your socks off , but still worth the money. The sushi deluxe version, came with lots of food and California rolls. Soup and salad. Nothing special, but worth the price for what you get. We also ordered an appetizer of grilled Squid. This item takes time to cook right so it came after we had our main dishes, no big deal because I know it take a while to cook. Also they have a special menu if you order something like $30 off the regular menu you can order one item from the special menu at a reduced price. So I got a small sake. For a dollar . I was so stuffed, we had a Togo container. We where also given a nut cracker for the lobster claws, it was funny when the waitress came up to me an said to be careful with them, I guess some People don't know how to crack lobster. But it was cute. For the money it was well worth the money. Not authentic but decently price for what you get.
